Island Swimming is
pleased to welcome Olympian and Canadian Record Holder
Julia Wilkinson to our program. Julia is currently
training and attending school at Texas A&M University, and will
be moving to Victoria full time once the school year is complete.
Julia will be coached by Randy Bennett at the Victoria Academy of
Swimming, and will train with fellow Olympians Ryan Cochrane and
Alexa Komarnycky.
Julia followed in her sister’s footsteps and
joined swimming at the age of 8. Her dream to represent Canada at
the Olympics came true in 2008 after qualifying for 6 events. At
the Beijing games, Julia swam an astonishing 11 races at her first
Olympic Games. She placed 7th overall in the 200IM (while smashing
the Canadian Record twice), and also set Canadian Records in the
100 Back, 4 x 100 Free, 4 x 200 Free, and 4 x 100 Medley
relays.
Julia has also represented Canada at the 2009 (Rome,
Italy) and 2007 (Melbourne, Australia) World Aquatic Championships,
the 2007 French Open (France), and the 2006 Pan Pacific
Championships (Victoria, BC).
Aside from her busy swim schedule, Julia is a full
time student and likes to read, write, watch movies, dance, go
shopping, and play beach volleyball.
