The upcoming October Splash swim meet provides a great opportunity to train new swimming officials.  A number of current officials will be leaving GSC as their swimmers graduate high school (or enter high school this fall) and GSC is in need of  fresh, energetic, and committed swim parents or relatives to step in and help oversee swim meets and time trials.  Each session at a swim meet requires at least 6 officials and championship meets requires many more.  The Stroke and Turn officials observe the swimming technique of swimmers to ensure that they are within the rules of USA Swimming.  To become a stroke and turn official, you must attend a stroke and turn clinic (such as this one which has a discussion and video demonstrating the different strokes), participate in 4 training walks, take an online test (which we do in class so everyone should get 100%), and be a non-athelete member of USA Swimming (though not to attend the clinic or do the training walks).  It is a great way to participate in the swimming activities and the best way to learn the requirements of each stroke.

If you plan to attend, please let me know so I will have enough tests to pass out.    Thanks and hope to see you there.  John Clark
