The Oktoberfest, in its new format, was a
success. Although the
meet started late due to some technical difficulties, it ran as
planned. There were
many best times posted by the younger swimmers and the older kids
got a chance to swim some events they don’t normally do. I like where we are six
weeks into the season and although we have lots of work to do,
generally the swimmers are ahead of where they were last year at
this time. Starts,
turns and technique need to be improved and will be the focus over
the next few weeks.
Thanks to all the members, staff and local teams
that helped set up and take down the pool for the meet. By doing this ourselves, we
save lots of money we would have to pay to the Kinsmen Sport
Centre for their staff to do it. We all have busy schedules but by
taking the time to help out, you keep the costs
from rising for club pool rental.
A special thanks to Lydia Schramm, Fionnuala
Pierse and their crew for cleaning up all the food and garbage left
under the Keyano bleachers. It was disgusting and I never
want to see our club area left like that again. Parents, please talk to your kids
about using the garbage cans and not throwing their food and
garbage under the bleachers or in other swimmer’s bags. There will be major
discipline should this occur again.
Thanks to Julianne Hafer and her committee for
hosting the meet.
Go Bears!
