Comets "A"
Invite
As most of you know,
the Pine Crest Fort Lauderdale Age Group competed at the Comets
“A” Invitational in Pembroke Pines this passed weekend.
Amongst these swimmers were: Kent Haeffner, Hank Contich, Nicholas
Hediger, Ryan Graff, Caroline Nava, Amber Lubie, Charlotte Spencer,
Cara Vota, Jessica Nava, Windsor Anderton, and Ashley Crouse.
On Friday night, Hank and Charlotte began
the meet with the 200 I.M. Hank improved his time by over three and
half seconds getting a 2:28.50. Both swims showed strong
improvement during this rigorous month of training.
Saturday’s session began with the 50 backstroke and Caroline,
Amber and Ryan each had a strong race. They showed improvement in
their streamlines and turns which have been a key focus during
practice this passed month. Charlotte, Jessica, Windsor, Caroline,
Hank, Ryan, and Nicholas all swam a strong 100 freestyle. Hank got
a best time by over a second getting a 59.98 and going under a
minute for the first time! Ryan improved his time by three tenths
getting a 1:04.21. Jessica and Ashley swam the 50 butterfly and
showed great discipline by keeping their stroke fluid and
consistent throughout the whole race. Jessica dropped a second and
a half from her previous getting 34.49. The 100 breastroke was swum
by Charlotte, Hank and Nicholas. All three continue to perfect
their stroke and turns in this event. Emphasis has been put on the
breastroke pullouts during practice and it was evident that
Charlotte, Hank and Nicholas have been focusing on them. Hank
improved his time by a half a second getting a 1:15.39. Hank swam
the 100 I.M. and showed improvement in his technique and speed on
his turns. Charlotte, Jessica, Carline, Cara, Hank, Ryan, and
Nicholas all swam the 200 freestyle working on their negative
splitting which is when they swim their second hundred faster than
the first. This is a strategy we work on in practice because it is
a strong way to win races. Ryan got a best time by a half a second
getting a 2:20.54. Jessica, Charlotte, and Caroline swam the 100
fly all demonstrating great discipline on their fast open turns.
They all have worked very hard on keeping a consistent breathing
pattern throughout that entire hundred, which is difficult to do
and shows extreme focus.
Nine of our swimmers swam the 50
freestyle; Charlotte, Jessica, Windsor, Ashley, Caroline, Amber,
Hank, Ryan, and Nicholas. A key factor in the 50 free is not
breathing because it is such a short race. All of the kids worked
on only breathing about four times in the entire 50. Jessica got a
best time of 32.90 which is a half of a second drop and Hank
dropped by three tenths getting a 26.80. Charlotte, Jessica,
Caroline, Amber, Cara, and Ryan swam the 100 backstroke. All the
kids showed such a huge improvement on their streamline off the
walls. Everyone got to at least the flags off every wall. Charlotte
dropped three tenths and got a 1:19.81. Caroline dropped over
two and a half getting a 1:09.39. Hank and Nicholas swam the 50
breastroke. They showed improvement on their pullouts and
technique. Nicholas dropped over two seconds getting a 37.08.
In the afternoon session on Sunday, Kent
swam the 200 freestyle dropping over a second and getting 2:00.26.
He also had a strong 100 freestyle. All the kids have improved so
much on their technique, streamline, and turns over the past month.
This meet was a small preview to how amazing Winter Champs is going
to be!!! Good job to all the swimmers this weekend!!! Keep up the
hard work!!
