It was an evening to remember, filled with dreams of things to
come and memories in the making sprinkled with laughter and
tears. The Pleasanton Seahawks (PLS) 26th Annual Awards
Banquet was held on Sunday, October 25. Three hundred guests
attended the gala celebration including swimmers, their families,
coaches and special friends. Along with the PLS swimmers,
coaches and local press were honored for their outstanding team
support.
After an incredible 2008/2009 season, the Pleasanton Seahawks
now enjoy the premier title of Far Western Long-Course Champions
for 2009. Many strong swims, countless hours and constant
sacrifices went into making this a reality. The PLS athletes
were recognized for competing on numerous levels: local (Pacific
Swimming), national (Junior Nationals, US Open) and international
(Junior Pan Pacific Championships, USA Swimming Grand Prix
Series). Congratulations to the PLS swimmers!
Along with each swimmer receiving an award, additional honors
were awarded for perfect to near perfect attendance. In
addition, the highest PLS honor, the Inspiration Award, was also
given to multiple awardees proving that it’s not about the
destination, it’s about the journey.
Confirming that a winning team must have strong leadership to
succeed, Todd Tucker, Head Age-Group Coach, was awarded Coach of
the Year by Pacific Swimming. Additionally, Jon Pallesen, PLS
Intermediate I Coach, was elected as Age Group Chairman for Pacific
Swimming. Thank you to all of the PLS coaches for their
incredible leadership, dedication and sacrifice.
The Awards Banquet was an opportunity to acknowledge and thank
friends of PLS. Janet Armantrout, Editor of The
Independent, graciously attended and accepted an award for
wonderful year-round coverage of the swim team. The
Independent consistently published the PLS news with their
professional and talented touch. Also recognized was the
Pleasanton Weekly. Thank you for your excellent publicity and
support.
