WCM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

RECAP

Walnut Creek Masters had a great time at Masters World Championships! The meet was held at Stanford University August 4th through 10th. We all swam well and had a fun time taking the team bus for our volunteer day and relay day. All of our swimmers swam fast and had impressive swims. We are proud of everyone!!!!! Congratulations to all on a job WELL DONE!

Our swimming was highlighted by two individual WORLD RECORDS. Patty Landers broke the existing 50-55 200 M Backstroke record by over three seconds swimming a time of 2:43.14 Our second WORLD RECORD came when Jim Delacy lowered the record in the men’s 60-64  200 M Free to a 2:13.32.  Relay day did not disappoint! The 200+ team of Patty Landers, Leianne Crittenden, Suzanne Heim-Bowen and Regina Brittingham broke the WORLD RECORD in the 200 M Medley Relay lowering the mark to a 2:15.21. Congrats to our new WORLD RECORD holders!!

We had 8 swimmers leave as individual WORLD CHAMPIONS. Ann Hirsch and Roque Santos led the way with four individual wins each. Ann set three national records with her efforts. Suzanne Heim-Bowen and Patty Landers each left with three wins apiece, Lauren Morelli won two individual races, and Charlene O’Brien, Jim Delacy, and Ryan Jones each won one. Congratulations to all of our WORLD CHAMPIONS! (Their names are highlighted in blue on our team results page.)

Numerous Creekers - forty-eight to be exact- placed in the top 10 in their individual races. At Worlds this is quite an accomplishment! All top 10 finishers are highlighted in purple on our team results. Congrats to all!

We had 35 Creek Relays finish in the top 10. Relay day was really fun and we swam well! Out of those 35 top ten finishes we had one first place finish (our WR from above,) eight second place finishes (oh so close!!!) and five third place finishes. Not bad for a “little” team going up against all those other countries!

Thanks to all who came to swim, volunteer and cheer us on. All of you helped to make this a wonderful, memorable meet and we thank you for that! Go Creek!!!!
