Parents view of the US Olympic Trials

Hello from Omaha.  The weather has been very cooperative and the people of Omaha really make you feel at home.  Don and I have witnessed the most exciting swim meet of our life.  This is truly one of the highlights of our lives, not just because of Scott being here, but because we have witnessed the best swimmers in the world competing for a place on a team that will show the rest of the world what and who we are.   As a mother I am moved by the number of parents who are here supporting their children as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles and probably cousins.  There are almost as many kids watching as there are swimming.

The swimming has been fabulous and Scott has swam two personal best times; we are proud of him.   We have no set expectations of how fast he should go only that he is here and that is an accomplishment in itself.  Tomorrow will be his last swim and we hope he continues to improve and make his coach proud of him.  As I watch him on the block ready to swim; it is hard to not remember the small boy who looked at me and said mommy some day I want to go to the OlympicsIt has been a dream of his and one that we have helped nuture.

I hope that you to can someday be in my place and witness that same sparkle in your child’s eye, and feel the pride of knowing how hard she/he has worked to accomplish something they really wanted to do.
