AmberJax Swimmer Haley Brown '14 Selected for Special Engineering Summer Program
Haley Brown has been selected to attend the Engineering and Construction Camp at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC, on June 17-23, 2012. This camp is sponsored by the Society of American Military Engineers (S.A.M.E.). Haley applied to the Jacksonville Post of the S.A.M.E., and was selected based on several factors, including her academic performance and extracurricular involvement. She is one of 40 students selected from communities throughout the United States, the Pacific and Europe. The camp is designed for High School students who excel in math, science, and technical courses. The focus and theme of this camp is to interest high school students in the engineering profession through hands-on activities in construction, team building, and is led by a professional staff of engineers from both private industry and the US Marine Corps. Haley is interested in attending this camp because she enjoys Mathematics and Science, and is considering studying Engineering in college. At this camp she hopes to learn more about Engineering and expand upon what she has learned in her classes. Haley learned about the camp from her father, who was as an officer in the US Army Corps of Engineers.
