Olympic Trial Recap
SCSC wrapped up their Olympic Trial experience this morning with the completion of Sam Shimomura’s 1500 free. SCSC took 8 swimmers: Charlotte Ruby, Samuel Shimomura, Michael Nunan, Courtney Monsees, Matt Hurko (representing Univ. of Ariz.), Ryan Hinshaw, Alex Wold and Russ Payne.Charlotte Rubyswam the 200 fly in the meet and time trialed the 100 fly and 400 free. Although not quite at her best in the 100 and 200 fly, she dropped 2 seconds in her 400 free with a 4:23.60. Samuel Shimomuraswam the 200, 400 and 1500 free and time trialed the 100 free. Although he didn’t quite make any best times, this is an experience he will carry with him through the next four years when we will hopefully see him back at Olympic Trials in 2016! Michael Nunanswam the 400 and 200 free and time trialed the 100 free as well. Not quite any best times, but after battling a bout of sickness just 3 weeks ago, we were very happy to see him so close to his bests. Courtney Monseesmade a quick comeback for this Olympic Trials (her third!) and swam the 200 IM and time trialed the 50 free. Matt Hurkotraveled with us and although he represented his college team of the Arizona Wildcats, he still had a great swim in the 100 back and a really great time trial in his 200 back, dropping from 2:05.29 to 2:04.65. Ryan Hinshawhasn’t been doing flipturns for almost a year in workout (and definitely no diving), so it has been a tough road to trials these past couple of years. Although a ways off of his best time, Ryan finished his 400 free nearly pain free and we feel it was a great landmark in his recovery to full training! Alex Woldwas our highest ranking swimmer at this trials. He just missed the finals in the 400 IM with a 4:19.84, but was happy with his swim, saying, “I’m probably the happiest 9th place finisher at this trials!” He also just missed a second swim in the 200 IM with another lifetime best 2:03.28. Alex also swam the 200 free, 400 free and 200 fly, all just off of his best times. Wrapping it up was our beloved Russ Payne!Russ swam quite the array of events with the 100 back, 200 breast, 200 IM and 400 IM. He just skimmed his best times but went out after his races like a champ and had some great smiles sprinkled in there!
All around, SCSC had a great Olympic Trial experience with a lot of memorable times, and we’re looking forward to taking many of you with us in 2016!
