LASC Swim Club Opens Season with Success

The October 27th -28th weekend saw swimmers from Southern Alberta and the East Kootenay's travel to Lethbridge for LASC's annual Fall Challenge swim meet held at the Max Bell Pool.   For most swimmers this was the first meet of the season, and for many, this was their first ever competitive meet against other clubs.

LASC, under new Head Coach Peter Schori, swam to excellence.  26 swimmers competed for the club and saw 120 personal best times set.  Those who swam 100% personal best times were: Natalie Arnold, Shaylyn Boras, Renee Boutilier-McFarlane, Seth Harasem-Mitchell, Mackenzie Lachman, Naomi Leam, Sarah Little, Spencer Park, and Emily Wauters.

As well, two more LASC swimmers earned Provincial "A" times that allow them to compete in select meets throughout the year - Raine Arden and Sarah Little.  They will join other A time swimmers from the club on Nov 2nd-4th in Calgary at a swim meet open only to those posting these qualifying times.

Event winners this weekend were:  Raine Arden (400 m Freestyle); Jordan Calladine (50 m and 100 m Backstroke); Aidan Godwin (800 m Freestyle); Seth Harasem-Mitchell (100, 200, 400 and 800 m Freestyle and 200 m Breaststroke); Sarah Little (50 m and 100 m Breaststroke and 50 m Butterfly); and Vincenzo Sljuka (50 m Freestyle, 100 m Backstroke, 50 and 100 m Butterfly, and 200 IM).

On October 20-21, Brittany, Josh and Kaelan Freund attended a meet in Calgary with Josh winning the 200 m Freestyle, 50 m Backstroke and 50 m Butterfly.  Kaelan posted winning times in 200 m Freestyle, 50 and 100 m Backstroke, and 50 and 100 m Breaststroke.

It's been a very strong start to the season, and a special season it is as the club celebrates its 75th anniversary.
