The December issue
of Swimming World Magazine featured a great article on our own
Donna de Varona on page 8, in an article entitled “Still
Kickingý by Emily Mason. To purchase the issue go to:
Donna was the youngest American on the Olympic Team in 1960, at the tender age of just 13! She went on to also qualify for the 1964 Games in Tokyo, and won the hearts of Americans and the world! She’s been featured on the cover of Time, the Saturday Evening Post and Sports Illustrated twice. Among her impressive swimming credentials, she has set world records in eight events, in three different strokes and the I.M., won 37 national titles and two Olympic Gold medals.
She became the first ever female sportscaster, blazing the way for many to follow! She’s covered 17 Olympic Games, won an Emmy and is currently on the Board of Directors for the International Swimming Hall of Fame (along with former SCSC teammate Mark Spitz!) Donna is still involved in bringing excellence to sports all over the world. Congratulations, Donna! We look forward to seeing you at the Reunion in June!!!
