During the weekend
of December 1-4, 2005, 11 swimmers from the National/Senior group
competed in Seattle, Washington at the Husky Invitational, hosted
by the University of Washington. Teams from the Northwest, Pacific
Swimming, Canada and several college teams were in attendance.
Among the notable swims were the performances by Courtney Monsees in the 200 Free and 200 IM. In the 200 Free, Courtney won the event in an excellent early season time of 1:48.42 and finished second in the 200 IM with a 2:02.55. She also qualified second in the 100 Free with a 50.71, but due to school schedules our team left prior to the Finals competition on Sunday evening.
In addition, Matt Smith turned in one of his finest performances to date with the club. Matt won the 100 Breaststroke with a 55.50 and placed second in the 50 Free with a 21.02. He also qualified second in the 200 Breaststroke on Sunday with a 2:02.7.
Other excellent swims included Stephanie Wei in the 200 Free (1:52), Jonny Muir in the 100 Fly (52.3), Taylor Smith in the 200, 500, 1000, and 1650 Freestyle events (1:42, 4:32, 9:26, and 15:47 respectively). Brian Rose, who will be representing the USA in Australia as a member of the National Junior Team later this month, had solid swims in the 1000 Free, 400 IM, and 200 Fly (9:22, 4:04, and 1:55 respectively).
This meet served as an excellent first major test of the season for all those who competed.
The National/Senior group is currently putting in heavy work during the Christmas break and will be back in the competition pool for the Zone Championship Meet and the Washington Open, both in January 2006.
