SCSC Success at the Stanford Grand Prix Meet

Following an incredibly successful high school championships just two weekends ago, many SCSC swimmers went on to compete in the Stanford USA Swimming Grand Prix meet this past weekend, May 20-22, 2005. This meet was the first of the summer series for USA Swimming.

Fourteen swimmers from SCSC qualified and competed in the meet. Courtney Monsees continued her fantastic month, finishing fifth in the 50 and 100 Free, 4th in the 200 IM, and 3rd in the 200 Free. In the 50, 100, and 200 Free she went personal bests of 26.9, 57.2, and 2:03.5. Also among the women competing, Dominique Lazarovici and Stephanie Wei placed in both the 100 and 200 Back.

On the men's side, Brian Rose had two excellent swims in the 200 and 400 Free. He clocked a 1:56.1 in the 200, and a 4:03.3 in the 400 Free; both were personal bests. Scott Jackson qualified for finals in the 100 Back, going a personal best of 59.09. He also competed in the 200 Back finishing with a time of 2:10. Matt Smith won the consolation heat in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:06.5, while Eric Lynch grabbed seventh place in the 1500 with a time of 16:10.

Overall the meet was a great success for all who competed and was an excellent springboard for the summer season that is upon us. Next up: The 38th Annual International Invitational Swim Meet, June 23-26! Go SCSC!
