Time Trials
Time Trials are on this Sunday,
June 7th at 11:00 am at the Miramonte pool. Please have
your swimmer/s there by 10:30 am. The Time Trials should last
about 2-3 hours.
So you may be asking “What
are Time Trials?ý… Time Trials is the first official
swim meet of the season, although we are not swimming against
another team. The purpose is to have swimmers swim competitively
within their age groups, trying to swim their best possible time in
each stroke, or in all the strokes that they know at that time.
Swimmers are expected to swim every stroke they know, and each
swimmer is expected to swim the best he/she can. The times posted
are used by the coaches as an initial assessment and a starting
point from which the swimmer can work to improve during the summer.
The improvement will surprise many parents!
Time Trials is also training time
for parents of new swimmers. Each parent will participate in one or
more of the following functions during the course of Time Trials:
Set-up, timer, recorder, starter, stroke-and-turn judge, desk
worker, runner, shepherd, announcer, snack bar, and “take
downý after the meet.
Time Trials
Potluck
For the upcoming Time Trials
we’re still having our traditional potluck but with a
twist. This will be your opportunity to try the new expanded
snack bar selections for the swim season. We will have hot dogs,
hamburgers and turkey burgers for sale at cost.
In addition to the entrée
that you can purchase, we are asking families whose swimmer’s
last name begins with A-M to bring a side dish to share and
families from N-Z to bring a dessert.
Snack Bar
Changes
We are pleased to announce that we
will be offering an expanded menu at the snack bar this year.
During the off season, the Carnes family volunteered to take on the
huge effort to make our MSC snack stand a little more tasty and
healthy. They will be starting slow and as they get a little
more comfortable with the process, they’ll begin to offer
some more interesting options. Here’s what we can look
forward to:
Evening meets: hot dogs (bigger!),
hamburgers and turkey burgers, salads, watermelon and fruit,
homemade cookies, hot chocolate & lemonade. We will still
offer some of the old favorites such as cup o’ noodles and
chips. We will also have local vendors providing items from
time to time to even further the choices.
Morning meets: bagels &
cream cheese, breakfast burritos, OJ, hot chocolate, coffee,
oatmeal, yogurt & granola, fresh fruit.
Please remember when you purchase
food from the concession stand, you’ll be supporting the
team. So if you’re trying to decide between ordering take out
for the next meet or buying food from our snack bar, we hope that
you’ll choose the snack bar. The Carnes are happy to receive
feedback on the new choices so that you’ll always want to
choose our snack bar. You can email feedback to Cathi and Jack at
cathicarnes@yahoo.com.
Junior Gators and Time
Trials
Although junior gators won’t
be swimming at Sunday’s Time Trials, we encourage junior
gator families to come and cheer on the Team. This is a great
opportunity to see how a swim meet is run and what all the meet
jobs, which you may be volunteering for in the future, are
like. We will be the only team on the pool deck so it will be
less crowded and overwhelming. Plus if the past is any
indicator, there will be a lot of good food to graze on at the
potluck.
Margarita
Night
Gator parents join us for our
annual Margarita Night to kick off the swim season on Thursday,
June 11th at 6:30 pm. This adult only social is an
opportunity for parents and coaches over 21 to get to know one
another. Leah and Al Saroni, owners of the Ranch House and
parents of MSC swimmer Jack, have graciously offered to hold this
private event at their restaurant. Please look for and
respond to the evite invitation.
