Good Day LASC Families!

On behalf of the LASC board and coaching staff, we are excited to announce our Swim-A-Thon campaign.

The LASC Swim-A-Thon event will involve all swimmers and will be held on Saturday March 22, 2014 from 8-10 am at the Max Bell pool. Swimmers will swim for up to two hours and up to 5 km.  We are beginning the fundraising campaign now, which allows your swimmer two and a half months to raise funds for the club.  The required fundraising goal is $100 per family but please consider aiming for more than that.  LASC is offering prizes for the top three individual fundraisers and the top group fundraiser. Canada-wide there are some amazing prizes for top fundraisers, sponsored by Speedo, including a five thousand dollar travel voucher.

Our club goal is to raise $15,000 and we will put this money towards purchasing equipment and subsidizing coach travel to swim meets.  The sale of Lucky’s Bingo hall led to the loss of significant bingo revenue this year, and we plan to replace some of the lost income with Swim-A-Thon proceeds.  With your help, we know we can achieve this.

Win lunch with 2008 & 2012 Canadian Olympian Richard Hortness!  Our top 3 fundraisers (by individual) and top family will join Richard for lunch on the Monday following Swim-a-thon.  Richard swam in Medicine Hat and for one year with the Pronghorns.  Check out his website at -

In an effort to reduce collecting cash, counting donations, time issuing receipts and other administrative duties, LASC and swim clubs Canada wide have joined with an online partner (RaiseAThon) to provide an online tool that will make raising funds easier for our swimmers.

All of us will now be able to reach out to family, colleagues, friends, and utilize the tools of social networks in Canada and throughout the world to increase our Swim A Thon dollars raised this year. If you have participated in a national charity event, you will know that raising funds for special causes is made easier through tools like RaiseAThon.

Parents, please go online and assist your swimmer with registration. Be aware this year, the family affidavit is part of the online registration. You may register all swimmers in a multiple swimmer family on one website but please make sure the individual swimmers indicate which swim group they are a part of (for example: I Can Swim Monday-Weds, Provincial, National etc).  Start spreading the word to family, friends, business colleagues, social contacts and those in support of the sport of swimming in our community, province and Canada. We appreciate your support as you help us to provide the best resources, coaching and programs that we can by raising these valuable dollars for our swim program.
