September 18, 2007
This is the MAC News for Tuesday, September 18th.
There will most likely be some practice schedule changes for Friday due to Fair Day (FCPS have the day off) and the fact that the bubble is going up on Saturday. We are still working some issues regarding some of the prep work that needs to be completed prior to Saturday. More information about the practice schedule for Friday will be forthcoming once we resolve these issues.
On that note, we will be raising the bubble on Saturday beginning at 8:00 am. If you have never helped with the bubble before or if you forget what is involved, here is what to expect. All practices will be cancelled on Saturday as we need everyone's help, but especially our big, strong, dads and older swimmers. The older swimmers should be ready to get in the water. The job can be dirty and wet, so wear old clothes and shoes. Lightweight work or garden gloves can be helpful. We also need crescent wrenches and socket wrenches in the following sizes: 15/16, 9/16, 5/8, and 1/2. Please label your tools to be sure you go home with them. The job usually lasts several hours, but we welcome everyone's help for as long as they can stay. If you can't come right at 8:00, please come when you can. There is certainly plenty to do at noon or after, helping to wrap things up. There is also prep work that needs to be completed this week prior to the raising. If you are available at any time this week, including during your child's practice, please contact Don Feinberg, at 301-696-3484, and let him know.
There has been some confusion regarding the NBAC Christmas Invitational that we attend in December. Despite what you may have seen on the NBAC website, the MAC meet schedule that was distributed is correct and this meet is still at 3 day meet (trials and finals on all 3 days) - Dec. 7th-9th. In addition, it is the same weekend as the ASC Christmas Invitational which also takes place in Annapolis. If you are relatively certain your child will be participating in this meet, it is strongly suggested you book a hotel room NOW! The reservation may be cancelled at a later date if it turns out you do not need it.
There is an additional meet some MAC swimmers will be attending that was not on the original meet schedule. Swimmers in Senior Red, Black, and White with BB times or faster will be attending a quad meet with Eagle Swim Team, York YMCA, and GTAC at the McDonogh pool in Owings Mills on Saturday, October 20th. The meet will be in the afternoon and Coach Andy plans for his swimmers to train in the morning prior to the meet. More infornation regarding sign-ups for this meet will be available soon.
On Sunday, Maryland Swimming will be hosting their annual Officials clinic, beginning at 8:00 am at UMBC in Catonsville. This clinic is a must for any previously certified officials to maintain their currency. In addition, it is open to anyone who is interested in becoming a Maryland certified official. More information may be found at www.mdswim.org/Officials/Annual%20Maryland%20Swimming%20Officials%20Clinic%202007.pdf.
The practice schedule for today is as follows - Senior Red and Black from 4:00-6:15 pm, Senior White from 5:45-8:00 pm, Age Group II from 6:00-8:00 pm, and Senior Prep and Masters from 8:00-9:00 pm all in the outdoor pool. Novice I will be in the indoor pool from 5:30-6:30 pm and Novice II and III will be there as well for 6:30-7:30 pm. There is no practice today for Age Group I.
