January 23, 2009
This is the MAC News for Friday, January 23rd.
It was reported yesterday in the Frederick News Post (and even made it to the Swimming World Magazine website!), that Frederick county is no longer considering closing the FCPS swimming pools or eliminating swimming as a varsity sport! The petitions will remain posted for a few more days, just to be sure.
We are still waiting to hear from numerous families regarding their volunteer commitment for the Hogan meet. Remember, your family is REQUIRED to provide at least two sessions of help REGARDLESS of whether your child is competing. Those who do not volunteer will be assessed an additional $75 on your next bill. In the past we have had many swimmers volunteer and those numbers are down this year, so, please do not assume your child has volunteered. We are in need of the following positions - 2 people to run the Meet Manager computer on Sunday morning, 1 safety marshall for Sunday morning and 2 for Sunday afternoon, 1 timer for Sunday morning, concession volunteers for Sunday morning, clerk of course volunteers for Sunday morning, and someone to help with the Colorado computer (no experience needed) Sunday afternoon. We realize the Super Bowl is Sunday evening but you will be finished in plenty of time to see the game! Please contact Helene Williams at either email@example.com at 301-607-6475 ASAP to volunteer. For those of you who have already volunteered, WE THANK YOU!!!
TODAY, at 6:00 pm, is the deadline for entries and fees for the GBSA Last Chance State Championship Qualifying meet ( www.mdswim.org/Top_Nav/Meets/2008-2009_Schedule_Results/GBSA_Last_Chance_State_Championship_Qualifying_Meet.htm).
Don't forget, MAC will be hosting a Stroke and Turn officials clinic between sessions on Saturday of the Hogan meet. This clinic is the first step in becoming a USAS certified official. We have lost many of our long-time officials and need to replenish our ranks. If you are interested in attending the clinic, please drop an e-mail to Dennis Coyle at firstname.lastname@example.org to let him know of your intentions.
Senior Prep and Masters swimmers, please be aware that practice next Wednesday, January 28th will be cancelled due to a coaches' meeting. Makeup practices will be run on Friday, February 6th and Friday, February 13th from 8:00-9:00 pm in the bubble for anyone interested in attending.
The practice schedule for today is normal - Senior Red and Black from 4:00-6:30, Senior White from 5:45-8:00, and Age Group II from 6:00-8:00 all in the bubble. Age Group I will swim in the indoor pool from 4:30-6:15. There is no practice today for Senior Prep, Novice, or Masters. Saturday's practice schedule is also normal - Senior Red and Black from 6:45-9:00, Senior White and Age Group II from 9:00-10:30, and Novice from 10:30-11:30 all in the bubble.
