With the weather forecast, here's a quick reminder about cancellations.  Should Hood close for the day, we are unable to use the facilities and all practices will be cancelled.  The phone hotline (301-696-8588) and the website will be updated as quickly as possible.  In addition, an e-mail will be sent.  You may also sign up to receive closing alerts from Hood by clicking here  If in doubt about the weather, please check one or more of these sources before heading to practice. 

MAC will be holding a cover design contest for the Robert J Hogan Memorial Mini Meet program.  All swimmers are invited to participate.  Please be sure your cover design includes your name and place all entries in the Hyrkas folder no later than 6:00 pm Friday, January 25th. 

There are some practice schedule changes for Monday, due to the MLK Holiday.  Senior Red and Black will swim from 6:00-8:00 am and again from 4:00-5:30 pm.  Senior White and Senior Prep will train from 6:30-8:00 am and Age Groups I and II will swim together from 10:00-12:00.  All practices will be in the bubble. 

Don't forget, if you haven't signed up for a volunteer position for the Robert J Hogan Memorial Mini Meet, please do so today. If your family absolutely cannot attend the meets, it is your responsiblity to make arrangements with the meet director (in this case, Fred Manning - to help with a job prior to or after the conclusion of the meet.  In addition, a sheet for concession donations has been posted.  Any donated items may be dropped off in the indoor pool on Tuesdays or Thursdays to either Terri Carder or Jenny Beiter.  Helene Williams is the point of contact for drop-offs in the bubble most other nights.  If you have any questions regarding concessions for the meet, please contact either Terri at or Jenny at 

Don't forget to be working on procuring an ad, either your own or from a local business, for the Robert J Hogan Memorial Mini Meet program.  A copy of the ad form may be found here ( Please contact Renee Hyrkas, with questions. 

If you are interested in becoming a Maryland certified official or just learning about what is involved, our team will be hosting a clinic for entry level officials at the Robert Hogan Mini-Meet at Frederick High on Saturday, February 2nd.  The clinic will take place in the cafeteria beginning at noon and will run for about 1 hour.  

The practice schedule for today is normal - Senior Red and Black from 4:00-6:15, Senior White from 5:45-8:00, Age Group II from 6:00-8:00, and Senior Prep and Masters from 8:00-9:00 all in the bubble.  Novice I will be in the indoor pool from 5:30-6:30 and Novice II and III will be there as well from 6:30-7:30.  There is no practice today for Age Group I.  Seniors will have morning practice tomorrow from 5:15-6:30.
