April 22, 2008
Today is Tuesday, April 22nd and this is the MAC News.
Three meet notices are currently posted on the bulletin board in the baby pool area of the bubble. To avoid being closed out of any of them, all entries and fees are due by 12:00 pm on Saturday. The first is the Naval Academy Aquatic Club (NAAC) "A" Buster (for swimmers with slower than "A" times) to be held May 31 and June 1, at the US Naval Academy. MAC is only participating in the meet on June 1st to allow for maximum participation in the biathlon. Fees for this meet are $18 ($5.00/event, up to 3 events plus the $3.00 service charge). Please note the actual meet notice is not yet available. A link and any changes to the fees will be posted as soon as the notice is available. The second is the North Baltimore Aquatic Club (NBAC) 2008 Long Course Championships (www.mdswim.org/Schedule/2008NBACJuneMeetNotice.doc) to be held June 6-9, at the Meadowbrook Aquatic Center. If you have questions about whether your swimmer qualifies to swim in the meet, please see your coach. Fees for this meet are $4.25/event, up to 3 events per day plus the $3.00 service charge. The third is the Green Terror Aquatic (GTAC) Independence Meet (www.mdswim.org/Schedule/INDEPENDENCEMEET2008.doc) for swimmers with slower than "A" times, to be held June 21-22, at the UMBC outdoor facility. Fees are $22 for swimmers swimming just one day or $41 for swimmers swimming both days.
Please be aware that the summer trimester begins on May 1st (next Thursday!). Bills will be coming out next week. If your child is in the water on May 1st, you will be responsible for the entire trimester's dues.
MAC is proud to announce that the creative talents of the Novice Group (all 39 swimmers) will be submitting art for the Kathy Lynn Rossick art show to be held at the MAC banquet on May 4, 2008. The art show is in honor of Mrs. Kathy Lynn Rossick, the mother of MAC swimmers George, Katelyn, and Chelsea Rossick, and wife of Mr. George Rossick. Cancer has many survivors - most of them are family, friends and loved ones of someone who has lost the battle to cancer. Each Novice swimmer will receive some art paper and guidelines about their art, in their folder by Thursday, April 24, 2008. Their art will go on display, as a table centerpiece, and then be sold at the banquet. The proceeds of the art show will go to the Rossick Educational Trust. We hope to raise awareness about cancer and show support for our family and friends in the MAC community.
The bubble will be coming down for the summer on Saturday, May 10th. We will need help from as many of our families as possible, especially our dads and older swimmers. More information will follow soon, but get this date on your calendar now!
On Saturday, May 31st MAC will be hosting a biathlon fund-raiser to raise awareness for cancer and to help support the Rossick family. All entries, along with the $30 registration fee, are due to Coach Lauren's folder by May 15th. The event is open to all MAC and Hood Hammerhead families, including parents and former swimmers!
