Partial recap of the LSC Championship meet that took place this past weekend

Today is Tuesday, March 4th and this is the MAC News. 

Here is a partial recap of the LSC Championship meet that took place this past weekend.  As team, MAC finished 2nd behind North Baltimore.  The girls were also 2nd, the boys 6th.  Five MAC swimmers were named state champions - Muhammad Hudhud won the 11-12 boys 50 free.  Christina Hyrkas took home top honors in the 11-12 girls 200 breaststroke.  Margot Manning has gold medals in 7 events - the 11-12 girls 50, 100, and 200 free, 50 and 100 breast, and 100 and 200 IM.  Angie Maruca finished first in the 9-10 girls 500 free.  Last, but certainly not least, Artem Shandrenko touched first in the 13-14 boys 200 free.  Twenty new team records were set - Margot Manning lowered the 11-12 girls 50 free, 50 breast, and 100 IM records.  Hanne Borgersen established new marks in the 13-14 girls 200 free, 13-14 girls and Open 500 free, and the 13-14 girls 1000 free.  Nikki Hyrkas, returning from Mercersburg to compete for MAC, set a new mark in the 13-14 girls 1650.  Nikki's friend from Mercersburg and new MAC swimmer, Kiersten Bell, made an immediate impact by lowering the 17-18 and Open girls 1000 and 1650 free marks.  Muhammad Hudhud continued his assault on the 11-12 boys' records with new times in the 50 and 100 free and 100 and 200 breaststroke.  Artem Shandrenko lowered the record in the 13-14 boys 200 free.  Three new relay records were also set - the 13-14 girls team of Shannon McClellan, Chelsea Rossick, Nikki Hyrkas, and Hanna Borgersen lowered the 400 free relay mark.  The 15-18 girls team of Joanna Yeh, Katelyn Rossick, Kiersten Bell, and Laurel Brabson set a new standard in their 400 free relay.  Finally, the team of Andrew Howard, Ahmed Hegazi, Thomas Colket, and Muhammad Hudhud took down the 11-12 boys 200 free relay record.  Congratulations to all of our swimmers and our coaching staff for an outstanding performance. 

We would also like to extend congratulations to the following swimmers who achieved new Sectional qualifying times at the meet - Kiersten Bell, Christina Hyrkas, Nikki Hyrkas, Ally Long, Margot Manning, and Julie Thackston.  Way to go! 

Many MAC swimmers were named to the All Maryland and the All-Star Age Group teams.  Once a complete list is available, the names will be announced here. 

For those of you attending the Junior All-Star Meet this weekend, information regarding the meet, including psych sheets and some schedule changes, are posted here - www.cbacswimming.org/. 

Here is a heads up on the break between the Short Course and Long Course seasons.  All groups will be off from March 19th through March 25th.  Practice will resume on Wednesday, March 26th. 

The practice schedule for today is as follows - Senior Red and Black returns to a 2 hour practice and will swim from 4:00-6:00 except for those swimmers attending Junior All-Stars. They will swim for 1 hour from 4:00-5:00.  Senior White will swim from 6:00-7:15, Age Group II from 6:00-8:00, and Senior Prep and Masters from 8:00-9:00 all in the bubble.  Novice I will be in the indoor pool from 5:30-6:30 and Novice II and III will be there as well from 6:30-7:30.  There is no practice today for Age Group I.
