SWIM MEET RECAPS:
Over the last month our team been very busy and we have attended 3 meets. Here are some quick recaps of the following meets we attended:
 
2016 Junior Olympic Champs (July 7-10)
We had 11 swimmers qualify and attend JO’s this summer. Our swimmer did an outstanding job! We had multiple swimmers qualify for top 8 and get to swim in finals. We also had 3 team records broken!
Qualifying and attending JO Swimmers: Gabriel Cueva (11), Mikaela Gomez (12), Nathan Jellison (14), Sota Kanzan (17), Graham Randolph (12), Anna Frances Reyes (12), Trinity Rivera (11), Alyssa Powell (17), Dylan Powell (21), Elina Rosario (16), and Alyssa Sapida (11).
 
Ukiah Meet (July 15-17)
We had over 45 VJO swimmers attend the Ukiah Meet this year. This was hands down one of our most fun meets of the year for swimmers and PARENTS. Our team had a great time camping together at the Bushay campgrounds. Not only did we have fun, but our swimmers swim incredibly FAST! We had 186 new best times achieved and one new team record set. VJO even received multiple complements from other teams on our swimmers great technique and much fun our swimmers and parents are. “Oh that VJO team really knows how to have a good time. Next time were going to sit next to them.” –parent from another team
 
2016 Speedo Sectional Championships (July 21-24)
This year we had three VJO swimmers qualify and attend Sectionals in Roseville, CA. Congratulations to our Sectional swimmers, Alyssa Powell (17), Dylan Powell (21), and Elina Rosario (16). Thank you for representing VJO at Sectionals!

AGE GROUP & SENIOR COMBINED PRACTICE DAYS

Coach Jennifer will be gone to swim meets on the following days, so the Age Group will have to swim earlier next to the Senior Group. Coach Laurie will be coaching the Age Groupers on these days. This first change in practice day will occur this Thursday July 21st. If your family has a conflict due to this change in scheduling, please contact Coach Jennifer and we will get something worked out. We are sorry for this inconvenience, but we are short coaches on these days.

SWIM-A-THON UPDATE
We only have ONE WEEK TO GO!  So keep gathering Swim-A-Thon Donations!  We are STILL only 50% to our team goal of $8,000.  Remember the groups are competing against each other to try to win an Ice Cream Party.

Ice Cream Party - This year we are awarding an Ice Cream Party to the Group that brings in the largest amount of Swim-A-Thon donations. The Leopard Shark Group is in first place still, with $1,475 in donations raised to far. Great work, keep it up!

SHARK PRIDE DAY / BRING A FRIEND DAY
Thursday, July 28th is Shark Pride Day & Bring a Friend Day! On this day all swimmers are encouraged to bring a friend to practice with them. Please make sure all friends are water safe, because they will be joining most of our water activities for the day. All groups will be swimming together from 5:00-7:00pm. Everyone will be warming up together and working on skills together.  We will do fun games and relays at the end. Show off your Shark spirit!  We want to encourage team unity by having the entire swim team practice together.  This will be a team building day with a great opportunity to get to know swimmers in other groups.  
Parent Information Night & Social:
On this night from 5-6pm we will be having a parent information night and social in the bleaches. Come join us and let us answer any question you may have or if you don’t have any question come chat and hang out. See you there!
 
 
 
 
REAL SPIRIT WEEK (Aug 8-11)
Combined Practice Times for Aug 8-11:
4-5:30pm – 11 & Overs
5:30-7:00pm – 10 & Unders
We are dividing the practice times during Spirt Week by ages. Swimmers 11 years and older will practice from 4-5:30pm and swimmers 10 years of age and younger will practice from 5:30-7:00pm. This will enable our swimmers to be able to work together on their REAL Relays (8& Under, 9-10, 11-12 & 13 & Over) and team cheers. This will also give our older swimmers a chance to help work with some of our younger swimmers.
 
SPIRIT WEEK SCHEDULE
Monday Aug 8th Bring in a white T-Shirt
We will be tie dying these T-shirts on Wednesday afternoon. Make sure you pre wash your white shirt and write your name with sharpie on the tag.
 
Tuesday Aug 9th  Poster Making Day
From 5:15-6pm on this day All Groups will create “Good Luck” posters to hang up at REAL Championships.
 
Wednesday Aug 10th Tie Dying T-Shirt Day

      On this day we will having a carbo filled potluck after practice.

UPCOMING MEETS:
  
2016 SUMMER REAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Our End of the Summers REAL Championships Meet will be held Aug 12-14 in Ukiah. The last day to sign up is Friday July 29th.  This is the most fun and exciting meet of the year!  This is the only meet of the year most of our VJO swimmers get to experience a Championship Trials and Finals meet.  Just like how they run the Olympics. The theme of the meet this year is “Olympics”.  So we will be dressing up and trying to win the “SPIRIT AWARD”. This is a team scored Championship Meet and we are going for points, so we need ALL SWIMMERS attending. Last year we won the meet and the Spirit Award… Let’s keep this tradition going!
 
Entries – Entry Forms will be available this coming Monday. This will be a team entry meet, so paper entries will need to be turned in at the pool.
 
Hotel – Hampton Inn Ukiah
We have 15 hotel rooms reserved at the Hampton Inn Ukiah for a discounted rate or $149/night. Rooms are reserved for both Friday and Saturday night (8/12 &8/13). To reserve your room, call and tell them you are with Vallejo Aquatic Club.

Spirit Week (Mon Aug 8th – Thurs Aug 11th):
To get ready for REAL’s we will be having a Spirit Week the 4 days prior. This will include combined practice times and fun Olympic themed team building activities.
Combined Practice Times:
4-5:30pm – 11 & Overs
5:30-7:00pm – 10 & Unders
 
Costume Contest & Olympic Theme
This year the theme of the meet will be “Olympics”. We encourage everyone to dress up so we can win the Spirit Award at the meet again this year. Since the Olympics will be held in Rio, we are encouraging everyone to dress in a Rio de Janeiro Carnival Style (lots of colors, animal costumes, feathers, wings)
