No news!

Silver

Congratulations to those who achieved new JO times this past weekend at the Pacific Senior Meet and those who got best times at the WAVE Meet. Way to end the season on a good note; good job!

An important note:
Improving your times will require more time in the pool than needed as an age group swimmer. Your bodies are maturing and you are no longer growing an inch every other week. Lately, we’ve attended meets where some of you were disappointed in your times although you’ve only trained 2-3 days a week. If training 2-3 days a week is all it takes to be successful in the sport then I would love to just run a weekly workout for 2-3 days! But in reality that doesn’t work. There are 6 workouts a week and I recommend 5 minimum, and 6 if you are considering the move up into Gold and achieving JO/Far Western times. There is only one morning workout on Saturdays out of the six. It’s probably the most important practice because it’s the only opportunity to train for a “good morning swim” that we expect in the mornings at meets. Also, I do not recommend you signing up for a meet every week. We need to train during the week and practice good morning swims on Saturdays so that when we attend a meet (once a month), you’ll have a better chance of swimming faster and achieving best times. Your results reflect what you put in.
Happy Holidays!

SCSC’s Article of the Week

You may know that USA Swimming’s website (www.usaswimming.org) has a lot of great resources for swimmers, but there are ALSO great articles for parents! Here is a snippet of their “10 Commandments for Sport Parents”:

I. Thou shall not impose thy ambitions on thy child.

II. Thou shall be supportive no matter what.

III. Thou shall not coach thy child.

IV. Thou shall only have positive things to say at a competition.

V. Thou shall acknowledge thy child's fears.

VI. Thou shall not criticize the officials.

VII. Thou shall honor thy child's coach.

VIII. Thou shall be loyal and supportive of thy team.

IX. Thy child shall have goals besides winning.

X. Thou shall not expect thy child to become an Olympian.
