The summer ended with a bang as the club finished in 3rd place among Men’s teams and 6th place Combined at the USA Swimming Junior National Championships held August 9 through the 13th in Irvine, California. The team consisted of 17 swimmers and of the 17 swimmers who attended the team was represented in the scoring column by 14 of the athletes. Top 8 finishes were tuned in by Siri Kristiansen in the 100 Breast with a new club record time of 1:10.78. This was also a Norwegian Junior National record. Jackson Partin also finished in the top 8 in the 800 Free with a personal best of 8:12.15. On the Men’s side the 4 x 100 Free Relay, the 4 X 200 Free Relay, and the 4 X 100 Medley Relay all finished in the top 8 with both the A and B Men’s 4 X 200 Free Relay finishing in the top 8. Besides Siri’s new tem record, Jackson Partin and Charlotte Ruby sent new team records for 18 and unders in the 400 Free and 100 Fly respectfully. Jackson was also picked up to represent the USA at the Junior Pan-Pacific Competition held August 26-30 in Maui, Hawaii. Jackson will be swimming the 200, 400, and 800 Free, plus the 10K Open Water swim. The Junior Pan-Pac Meet is a new event on the international calendar and the meet will bring together the top 18 and under swimmers from the United States, Australia, Japan, Canada, and the other Pacific Rim countries. Head Coach John Bitter was also selected as one of the Assistant Coaches for this event.
At the USA Swimming National Championships, the Men’s 800 Free Relay team of Ryan Hinshaw, Jackson Partin, Sam Shimomura, and Kevin Owens swam to an eighth place finish.
SCSC finished 4th at the Pacific Swimming Far Western Championships, July 28-August 1, held in Concord, California. At the meet Sarah Shimomura broke the 11-12 Women’s 200 Free record with a time of 2:08.34. Congratulations to Sarah and to all of the SCSC swimmers who competed at Far Western and to a job well done in the team competition.
At the Pacific Swimming Junior Olympics held July 15-18, 2010, Virginie Qian broke the Pacific Swimming 8 and under 50 Backstroke record. Congratulations to Virginie for her achievement.
Finally, the following swimmers from SCSC represented Pacific Swimming at the North American Challenge Cup or Western Zone Championships, Aiden Burns, Chris Grey, Raime Jones, Sophie Krivokapic-Zhou, Timothy Kou, David McKenna, Sarah Shimomura, Katie Siegel, and Jared Yongyuth. The Pacific Swimming team at the North American Challenge Cup finished 3rd, while the Western Zone team finished 1st. Again congratulations to these SCSC swimmers and to all oft the SCSC swimmers for a job well done this summer.
