Nathan Adrian Leads CAL to NCAA Victory

03/30/2011: Bremerton native Nathan Adrian led the University of California to their first men's NCAA swimming and diving championship in over 31 years this past weekend. Adrian, one of USA Swimming's premier sprinters and 2012 Olympic hopefuls, set an American record in the 50 yard freestyle. Adrian was clocked in 18.66 in his winning efforts in the 50 yard freestyle. Adrian also claimed victory in the 100 yard freestyle at 41.10 and was instrumental in the Bears winning 200 and 400 yard medley relays and the 400 yard relay. Adrian was named "swimmer of the championships" for his heroic efforts in his senior year at California.  Seattle native Kevin Munsch, a junior at University of Arizona, placed seventh in the 100 yard breaststroke at 53.07 and sixteenth in the 200 yard breaststroke at 1:55.95. Former Puyallup resident, Peter Benner, a junior at the University of Georgia, placed sixteenth in the 400 yard individual medley. Benner had a prelim time of 3:46.52.
