PSSC Travel Meet 11/2
Our first annual 10 & U travel meet/zoo trip was a really fun and positive experience for all of those who participated, despite the curveball that Mother Nature threw at us. For the first time in my experience as a swim coach a storm caused a transformer to blow and the power went out during competition. With only one event to go, the lights turned off on a heat of 8 & U boys in the middle of their fly leg of the 100 IM. Not to be outdone by the lack of lighting, Jae Young Choi was determined to finish his event and continued to race in the pitch black until the officials finally stopped him on the wall after his breast stroke leg.
We had every intention of taking the kids to the Point Defiance Zoo after the meet, and at some point will make it up to these 10 & under swimmers but this time it was not in the cards. With branches falling everywhere we didn’t think it would be the best idea to continue on to the zoo, but we had a blast on the bus and at the meet. The camaraderie between the kids on the bus was very evident and overall we had a great time. Competition was intense between the swimmers as they arrived at the pool and saw the High-Point trophies lined up on the table waiting to be won.
High Point Winners:
8 & Under Girls: Emma Conger and Kaitlyn Girotto
8 & Under Boys: Christian Koh
9-10 Girls: Kynseth Mann
9-10 Boys: Nathan Lee
100% Best Times
Thank you to Dave Conger, Jay Girotto, Jen Headrick, Ellen Klinck, Yuliya Polyakova, Rachel Sherrer, Doug Smith, and Cynthia Shumate for your help as chaperones. Great job to all of the swimmers, there were some great races and an enjoyable bus trip. We look forward to doing this again!
