Swim Team News 7/8/16
A Great Start to the Season!
We’ve had four dual meets so far with three more to go. After a tough first meet at Klahaya, we’ve run off three wins in a row over Sheridan Beach, Wedgwood, and View Ridge.
Last night’s meet at View Ridge was especially exciting. Both teams swam well, but Aqua Club ended up the victors, 391-357. Some great swims by our older swimmers and some fantastic freestyle relays helped us to come from behind and finish on top. Great job everybody!
When we’re updating the best times sheets after each meet, we are always astounded at some of the time drops. The kids are really working hard. Remember that you can track your swimmers times by logging into the Team Unify website and clicking on “My Account” and then “My Meet Results”.
Remaining Dual Meets
There are two more home dual meets – Blue Ridge (7/12) and Sand Point (7/19) and one away dual meet Innis Arden (7/14). We’ve done a nice job adjusting to our new meet registration system. It really does help the coaches to make accurate and meaningful lineups!
At the finish of the dual meet season, all swimmers are eligible to participate in the championship season. Swimmers that reach a qualifying time standard swim at the Division Preliminaries*. Those who haven't reached a qualifying time swim at the B-Championship meet. Results from B-Champs can move a swimmer into prelims if it betters the prelim standard.
The fastest six swimmers in each event at the Prelims* move on to the Northern Division Finals. To qualify for the All-City Meet, a swimmer's time at Northern Division is compared to the Southern Division results. The fastest six results, regardless of North or South affiliation, are entered in the All-City Championship meet.
*All swimmers participating in prelims must be available to swim at North Finals and the All-City Championship meet.
Some swimmers with non-qualifying times may still participate in Prelims if they are placed on a relay. Remember to mark “attend/decline” for all of the championship meets, even if you’re not sure which ones that you will qualify for. Your coaches will help you to decide which meets you will attend.
Pancake Breakfast – 7/14
Our annual swim team pancake breakfast is scheduled for Thursday, July 14th. We’ll let the kids out of practice a bit early and let them pig out! We also need plenty of volunteers to pull this off. Please visit the Team Unify Job page and let us know if you are available to help cook/serve/clean.
Team Picture – 7/14
The team pictures will be taken during this same morning (7/14) at 9:00am. Please meet on the upper grass area at 8:50am. We’ll take the picture by 9:10 so don’t be late! Senior swimmers are encouraged to stick around to help serve pancakes - and entertain the younger swimmers.
2016 Team Shirts & Tie-Dye Party – 7/18
We’ve tentatively schedule a tie-dye party for Monday, July 18th. Coach Pete is busy putting together a design for this year’s shirt. Look for more details and ordering information in the next few days.
Banquet – 7/31 - 6:00pm (SUNDAY)
Help needed to plan this event! Please let us know if you are interested in organizing this annual fun and memorable evening. This is the third year that we’re holding our banquet before All-Cities so make sure to mark you calendar.
Lost & Found
There have been a number of team suits and Aqua Club gear living in our lost-and-found. Please check with your swimmer to see if one of them is yours. Remember to put your name on the tag. Also, if you left a blue deck coat at the View Ridge meet, we brought it home for you.
We still have three 9:00am Saturday clinics scheduled – 7/9, 7/16, and 7/23. Please try and preregister in the office so that we have an idea on what our staffing needs will be. Cost is $10.
