Carmel Winter Invite

19 BCST Senior Swimmers traveled to America ’s Heartland, Indianapolis Indiana .  Why would anyone go to Indiana if they didn’t have to (much less in the dead of Winter)?  I’ll tell you why, to compete against some of the best teams in the country in one of the best pools in the world.

Indianapolis played host to the 2010 Carmel Swim Club Winter Invitational which brought in teams from all over the country including national recognized clubs like Lakeside Swim Team (Kentucky), Club Wolverine (Michigan), Clayton Shaw Parks (Missouri), STAR (New York), and the host team Carmel Swim Club.

The meet is held at the IUPUI Natatorium, home to numerous Olympic Trials, National Championships, NCAA Championships, and the Indiana Swimming Hall of Fame (of which our own Camille Thompson is a member).

We had some outstanding performance in finals, but were a little flat in prelims.  The 3 hour time difference meant we were warming up at 3:30 am our time.  Still we persevered and had a great experience.

Congratulations to these BCST swimmers who either made finals or placed in the top 16 in an individual event: Robbie Adler / Michael Bower / Danielle Deiparine / Jimmy Deiparine / Luke Duschl / Ethan Hallowell / Kyle Komlodi / Kyle Moline / Lily Morris / Meghan O’Keefe / Alex Palumbo / Taylor Seidel / Steve Sholdra / Paolo Stanchi / Claire Thompson / Caroline Van Maren

All in all it was a really fun a rewarding trip.  The people of the Midwest were incredibly kind, the swimmers were well behaved (well most of them were), and the three parents who dared to venture with me were outstanding in their assistance.   Thank you Peter Adler for your management skills, thank you Cynthia Hallowell for putting together all the meals, and thank you Abbie Morris for providing the entertainment.  I couldn’t have done it without you.
