August 11, 2010
July 31, PNS inducted the 2010 class into the Hall of Fame.
Two athletes, two coaches and two contributors were elected into
the Hall. Backstroke standout from Puyallup in the 1990's
Jamie Reid (now of Orlando, FL) was inducted based
on her string of National Championships. Don
Winant (now living in Spokane), distance swimmer from the
1970's was ranked 9th in the world in the 400 IM. Puyallup
Aquatic Club (now South Sound Titans) coach Rick
Benner (who coached Megan Quann and Jamie Reid in their
teen years, and now resides and coaches in Manassas, VA) was
inducted as a Coach member, as was Tacoma Swim Club's Jay
Benner. Jay's accomplishments included coaching Dana
Kirk and Nathan Adrian. Long-time PNS volunteer and coach
Klaas Schenk (Head Coach - Bellevue Club
Swim Team) was recognized for his contributions to the PNS Board of
Directors and swimming in the Pacific Northwest. Lyle
Campbell (recently retired from 30 years at the South
Snohomish County Dolphins) was also inducted due to his selfless
history of volunteering at the PNS Board and Committee level, as
well as on the National stage.
The induction ceremony was held on deck at the PNS Long Course Championships as a prelude to the Finals Session on Saturday night. Existing Hall of Fame members Bob Regan, Dick Hannula, Bob Miller, Rick Collela and Lynn Collela Bell were on hand to present the induction plaques and welcome the latest inductees into this distinguished Hall of Fame.
