RAC AQUAHAWGS WIN FIRST PLACE AT
NWAA WINTER INVITATIONAL
BENTONVILLE - The Razorback Aquatic Club AquaHawgs were
represented by 74 swimmers at the Neutrogena NWAA Winter
Invitational held Jan. 16-18 at the University of Arkansas.
Several swimmers achieved new time standards for upcoming state
and sectional meets and a few club records were broken.
"Coming away from the meet with the first place team trophy was
also very exciting," said RAC coach Scott Berry. "The victory was a
tremendous team effort for our club and sets us up well as we
prepare for the Arkansas State Championship meet in February."
New state qualifying times were turned in by Alexis Abernathy,
Madysen Bailey, Junior Brisco, Jared Crosby, Matthew Cunningham,
Jennifer Haefner, Sasha Hall, Clare Hamilton, Loren Hedgecock,
Andrew Henry, Jason Hunt, Simon Mooney, Joshua Parisi, Zachary
Parisi, Adriana Pianalto, Sam Schach, Kruti Shah, Logan Smith,
Sydney Smith, Robby Stevens, Antonio Thomas and Luciana Thomas.
New sectional qualifying times were recorded by Jimmy Burch,
Jenny Holtzen, Dexter Thomas, and first time qualifier Gage Crosby.
Ellis Miller swam a qualifying Junior National time in the 400
IM.
Team records were broken by boys 10 & under: Alex Lynch (50
& 100 fly), John Hedgecodck (1650 free), Matthew Willis (400
IM); boys 13-14: Gage Crosby (100 & 200 breast, 400 IM); girls
15-18: Jenny Holtzen (200 back, 200 IM, 400 IM); boys 15-18: Ellis
Miller (50 & 100 free, 400 IM) and Michael Haefner (1650 free).
Event champions were Gage Crosby, Jennifer Haefner, Michael
Haefner, Jenny Holtzen, Alex Lynch, Ellis Miller, Hayden Redfield
and Emily Roach.
Additional swimmers placing in the top three in at least one
event were Jimmy Burch, Brandon Haefner, John Hedgecock, Katelyn
Hedgecock, Blake Holland, Austin Hunt, Zachary Parisi, Adriana
Pianalto,Taylor Pike, Caroline Stelte, Dexter Thomas, John Willis,
and Matthew Willis.
Other swimmers placing in the top eight were Alexis Abernathy,
Jared Crosby, Matthew Cunningham, Joe Fenton, Sasha Hall, Jace
Hatton, Loren Hedgecock, Ben Heil, Andrew Henry, Carly Holland,
Colton Holland, Jason Hunt, Aditya Katke, Simon Mooney, Joshua

USA Swimming names RAC AquaHawgs to the Scholastic
All-America Team
Two swimmers from the RAC AquaHawgs swim team were named to the USA
Swimming Scholastic All-America Team. Michael Haefner, 18, and Ellis
Miller, 16, where recently named to the All-American team. They are the only two
swimmers currently competing in the state of Arkansas named to this
honor.
Haefner, a Senior at Bentonville High School, has a 3.8 GPA while
Miller, a Junior at Siloam Springs High School, has a 3.7 GPA. Both Haefner and Miller
also met the criteria by qualifying and participating in Junior
National meets. Spring
Junior Nationals was held in Orlando, Florida while the Summer
Junior Nationals swim meet was held in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Nine-hundred and seventy-four athletes made the team this year,
including 600 women and 374 men. Sixty-eight percent of the
successful applicants had a 4.0 GPA. Fifteen percent of the
athletes made the list for the third time in their careers.
Criteria for selection to the Scholastic All-America Team include
the following:

Must have completed 10th, 11th or
12th grade

Must be a USA Swimming member athlete

Must have participated in an individual event that met the Junior
National Bonus Time Standard during the qualifying period of July
1, 2007 through June 30, 2008.

Must have achieved a 3.5 GPA
The Scholastic All-American program began in 1986 and has been
staffed by dedicated USA Swimming volunteers from across the
country for the past 22 years.
