During A Meet

DURING A MEET
(Information for swimmer and parent)

ARRIVAL: Swimmers are to arrive at pool site 1 to 1-1/2 hours prior to meet starting time.

CHECK IN:

Each day of a meet, the swimmer goes immediately to the Check In desk to okay which events she/he is entered in and going to swim that day. This desk is usually located near the pool entrance.

Report arrival to coaches. There will be a canopy marking the general area for BEAR swimmers.

WARM-UP:  All swimmers must warm up. The distance and strokes will be given by the coaches.

EVENTS:

Heat and Lane Postings: Approximately ½ hour before the scheduled time for an event, the “check-in” list will be closed and taken to the computer. (If you didn’t check in, you will be scratched and not allowed to swim.) The computer will produce a list for each event showing which heat and which lane has been assigned to each swimmer. (Location is determined by host team. You have to ask).

Swimmer’s responsibility:  Each swimmer is responsible for checking their heat and lane assignments and then reporting this to their coach. It is a good idea to write the event, heat and lane number on the swimmer’s hand in black pen.

EVENT WARM-UP: Approximately 4 to 5 heats before a swimmer’s event, they should report to their coach for a short pre-event warm-up.

EVENT SWIM: By the end of the last heat in the preceding event, each swimmer should be lined up (back of the timers) behind the block number they have been assigned.

WARM-DOWN:  After a swimmer has completed an event, they must go to the warm-up pool and warm-down. The distance will be assigned by the coaches.

TIMES: (for parents) There is an electronic score board connected to the timing equipment. As each event is completed, the ending time for each lane appears on the board. It moves very fast, so you have to watch carefully as your swimmer’s lane is posted.

PROFILES: At the end of each meet, a printed recap and disk are given to the team tabulator. This will be entered in each swimmers BEAR record. Within 2 to 3 days, a summary (called a profile) for each swimmer showing times for the meet will be posted on Swim Connection (www.swimconnection.com).
