National
stream
The national stream
program is for those swimmers who want to compete at a national
level and want to specialize in the sport of synchronized swimming.
The Edmonton Aurora Synchronized Swim Club is the only club in
Edmonton offering synchronized swimming training at this
level. Typically swimmers from
the Wildrose stream enter the national stream around the age of 12
to 13 years. They have competed previously at either tier 4 or 5
level. The Auroras’ national stream has a number of options
available: tier 6 for swimmers 15 and under, tier 6 for swimmers 16
and over, tier 7 junior, and tier 7 senior. Swimmers are placed in
tiers according to their age and skill level.
National stream athletes participate at northern, provincial,
western, and national competitions. At Nationals each athlete has
an opportunity to try out for a national team. There will also be
opportunities to compete internationally and attend training
camps.
At this level the athletes have chosen to specialize in synchro,
therefore the hours of training increases. Weekly training hours
are in a group/team training environment. Actual hours may vary
during the season. Training hours are subject to head coach
approval and a sufficient number of athletes training at a similar
level within that training hour block. Fees are based on a group
and team training environment. The level of one-on-one attention by
the coach to a swimmer or coaching focus on particular swimmers may
vary based on training needs during the sessions.
