INAUGURAL MILLERTON MILE SWIM
A HUGE SUCCESS!!

On Sunday, June 15th, Sierra Multisport Productions co-hosted with Clovis Swim Club, our inaugural Millerton Mile Swim.  Sierra Multisport Productions organized and produced a truly fun and memorable event that was attended by USAS members and Masters swimmers from ages 10-71.  The weather was sunny and warm and the water temperature was about 70 degrees.

Fresno Dolphins Head Coach, Rick Klatt, assisted by his assistant age group coach, Jenny Hamilton, brought a bunch of age group Dolphin swimmers.  Head Coach Rick Klatt could have easily have competed well in the Masters division.  Instead, Coach Klatt and Coach Jenny swam along side their swimmers to encourage and motivate them.  For most of these swimmers, it was their first open water experience.

The open water swim began at 8:30 a.m. for USAS swimmers.  Cary Wright from Clovis Swim Club won overall in a great time of 0:19:23.  He just beat the first girl and team mate, Tristin Baxter, who went a 0:19:27, finishing second overall.  This was Tristin’s first mile swim since shoulder surgery last fall.  Third place overall went to another CSC team mate, Shelbi Horn who swam in a time of 0:20:19.  In the 10 & U division, Sarah Snyder won in a time of 0:24:01.  In the 11-12 division, Justin Wright won in a time of 0:21:57.  In the 13-14 boys division, Ting Williams won in a time of 0:20:22.  Team mates Emilio Cavasos took 4th in a time of 0:21:49, while team mate Daniel Yang took 5th in a time of 0:26:42.  In the 13-14 girls division, Jessica Norgaard took first in a time of 0:20:43, which just beat her team mate Raquel Talbot who clocked a time of 0:20:45.  Taking third in a time of 0:21:08 was team mate Courtney Chacon.

Later, nearly 50 registered PMS Masters swam.  Trevor Gillis from Santa Clara Swim Club won the Masters in a time of 0:19:14.  In the women’s division, Cindy Clements from Santa Anselmo won in a time of 0:22:46.
Lest you think that the age groupers of Clovis Swim Club had all the fun, think again!  Kevin Norgaard took second in his age group, clocking a time of 0:22:03.  Dowain Wright took 5th in his age group with a time of 0:24:09, while Loren Alving took third in her age group in the women’s division with a time of 0:27:24.  Rounding out the Masters swimmers competition was Clovis West High School Head Coach, Steve Baxter, who took second in his age group, clocking a time of 0:21:38.
Special thanks to Hammer Nutrition and Swim Suits West for donating the unique awards to our first place finishers.
