ROBERT F. “BOB” COURTWAY coached
swimming and water polo at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, for
18 years-12 as Head Coach. His team complied dual meet records of
128-52-2, and winning 10 Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference
Championships, nine of them in a row. He was inducted into the NAIA
Hall of Fame as a Coach of Swimming in 1979, the first in that
category. He was inducted into the Arkansas Swimming Hall of Fame
1986. He was the NAIA representative on the U.S. Olympic Committee,
1964-1972. President of the NAIA Swimming Coaches, 1970-1972. and
winner of the 1966 Distinguished Service Award, presented by the
Conway, Ark., Chamber of Commerce. He is the volunteer Coach of the
Conway High School team, starting in 1962,until the present (1987),
and founded the “Third Grade Learn-to-Swim” program in
the Conway Schools in 1962, which founded the Wilson, Ark., Aquatic
club in 1954, and the Hendrix Aquakids in 1961. Both clubs are
still operating in the USS program
