Grover Evans

A Jonesboro native, Grover Evans began swimming as a quadriplegic after and automobile accident. He has set 5 world records,46 American records and won 25 national championships. He was the first Black American to swim on the US Paralympic Team and set a Paralympic record in the 50 m Backstroke at Barcelona in 1992. In 1993, he established 6 new American records and 1 world record and was names Swimmer of the Year at the 32nd national Wheelchair Championships. At the 1996 Paralympic Trials, he set American and world records in the 50m freestyle and 50m and 100m backstroke.
