Eric began his swimming career as a 4-year old at the Little Rock Racquet Club. By his high school years he was known as one of the top distance swimmers in Arkansas. In 1981, he finished in the top 8 in three events at Junior Nationals, and next year be became the 2nd swimmer in Arkansas history to win a Junior National Championship. He was a senior nationals qualifier in 1985 and an Olympic trials qualifier in 1988. Eric was a 4-year letterman and team captain at the University of Arkansas, a SWC Finalist and Academic All American. He has continued to support swimming by establishing and presenting the annual Heil Mike Award to Arkansas’ outstanding distance swimmers.
