Mike started swimming in Wisconsin where he was the 10 and Under State Champion in the 50 Butterfly. He swam for Little Rock Boys Club as age group swimmer under Coach John Torbett, where he was the Arkansas State Champion in the 100 Fly and 200 Freestyle. He was on the 400 Freestyle Relay for the Arkansas Dolphins that broke a Regions VIII and pool record in 1980. He swam in college for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for Coach John Torbett. In 2002, Mike was 2nd in the 200 Fly and 3rd in the 100 Fly at Master Long Course Nationals in the 40-45 age group. He was the past president of the Central Arkansas Summer Swim League with over 700 swimmers.
