Adam Whitener

Adam has been swimming competitively since he joined the Travis Pointe Tiger Sharks at age 9.  He also swam for the Saline Stingrays, Washtenaw Area Swimming Hornets (WASH), before coming to Club Wolverine 8 years ago.  Traveling with the Club Wolverine team to away meets in Ohio, Indiana, North Dakota, Kansas, Minnesota, Buffalo, Georgia, California, Texas, Florida, and Buffalo hold his favorite swim team memories.  Adam will be attending and swimming for the University of Virginia next fall and plans on pursuing an Interdisciplinary Major in Computer Science.  Above all Adam would like to thank God, his family and all his swim coaches through the years for their support/encouragement (including Coaches Mike Holtz, Bill Hogan, Bailey Weathers, Todd Brunty, Pat Wickering, Pete Loveland, Bobby Savulich, Maggie Stevens, and Kelton Graham).  Adam was also one of the Saline High School Swim/Dive team Captains this year and was on the 200 Medley Relay that broke the all time National Public High School Record in that event along with CW teammates Michael Bundas, David Boland and Josh Ehrman.  The advice he would like to share with his team is do everything you do with purpose . . and focus on the details, both in life and swimming.

What is your favorite memory of CW? Going to the Grand Prix and seeing all the Olympians

What is your best piece of advice to give to a young age group swimmer? Don't give up.  Zac was in 4th grade when he tried out for the swim club team.  To this date, he is the only kid that was told "no you can't be on the team", you need swimming lessons first.  He was uncoordinated as a child and sports didn't come easy.  To the surprise of his parents, Zac took lessons and tried out for the team the next year.  This time he made the team and exactly a year later, he started making club records.
Don't give up!  So far this year Zac has 3 state cuts and 3 pool records.  He believes since he has been at CW his swimming has greatly improved.
