Parent Guidelines

We want to make all your experiences with us pleasant and look forward to a long and lasting association with you.  In an effort to help you children, please follow these guidelines:

• Parents are to remain out of the pool area during lessons; we have found that in general young children do better if they cannot see their parents while classes are being conducted.  You are welcome to view the lessons through the windows and we encourage you to do so.  Your feedback at the end of the session is very important in assisting with continual improvement.  On the last day of lessons, we invite you to watch from inside the pool area and take pictures or videos of your children if you wish.   
   
• Please encourage your children to use the restroom just before lessons so as not to waste time during classes for bathroom trips.
   
• Please keep a close eye on children who are not attending lessons.
   
• We want all parents to realize that swimming is not a skill that is learned at a steady, even pace.  There is a stage of "readiness" in learning skills and each child is different.  Age is not a factor in advancement.  Do not be discouraged if your child seems to have reached a skill "plateau" -- significant improvement comes with repetition over time.  Best progress will be made with regular attendance.
   
• There are some things which help children to learn.  We request your assistance with the following:
   
  1. Long hair should be put into a ponytail, braided, or put into a swim cap.
  2. Please keep toys with you.  We would rather not have the distraction of personal belongings on the pool deck.
  3. Goggles, swim caps and ear plugs are available at Speedy Swims, located inside WSC, if your swimmer chooses to use them.

• Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.  If you wish to enroll in another session, please do so before the end of the current session.
   
• On the first day of lessons, we evaluate the placement of the swimmers and make adjustments where necessary.
   
• The Wichita Swim Club takes great pride in our teaching staff.  We are constantly striving to further improve our technique, consistency, and continuity through seminars, workshops and other training disciplines.  We would like you to know that any one of our teachers could instruct your child and receive the same excellent learning experience.  Your feedback is vitally important to us in keeping our program at a level of excellence.  Please take a few moments on the last day of the session to fill out an evaluation form.
   
• At the conclusion of each session, each child will receive a certificate.  Indicated on the certificate are the skills that your child has mastered and the level that you should enroll your child in for future lessons.
   
• Classes will be canceled if we have a tornado warning or U.S.D. 259 cancels school for weather related reasons.  Make-ups for such cancellations will normally be scheduled on the following Friday at your regular class time.
   
• No shows:  If you do not show by the second lesson and we have not heard from you, your child will be dropped from the class.
