I am the proud father of two
boys, Michael (14) and Christopher (11). Michael is a freshman
at Westminster and swims year round at Dynamo and Christopher is a
seventh grader at Henderson Middle School and is a committed summer
recreational league swimmer. Swimming is very important in
both their lives and has taught them the importance of discipline,
hard work and competition. Paula, my wife, is training to
become a stroke and turn official, so collectively, we spend a lot
of time around swimming pools.
Professionally, I am on the
faculty at Georgia State University where I am Director of the
Institute of Public Health – a new graduate training program
at the university. The Georgia Cancer Coalition has designated
me as a Distinguished Cancer Scholar, and I serve as Editor for the
journal Health Education Research. My area of
research is tobacco control and prior to joining Georgia State, I
was Director of the Office on Smoking and Health at CDC. The
last two years at CDC were spent in Geneva at the World Health
Organization – an experience that broadened the perspective
of all family members.
For fun, I like to travel,
golf and ski, but there’s not enough time to do it
all. This year, international travel has taken much of time
with trips to Poland, Israel, Africa and Geneva. For the last
few years, I’ve coached baseball for both Michael and
Christopher at Rehoboth, but have recently stopped as swimming has
taken more of their time and interest.

It is an honor to serve on
the Board of Directors for Dynamo. Dynamo Swim Club has
earned a high reputation, both nationally and locally, that is
based on great coaching and management, involved parents,
hard-working swimmers, innovative thinking, and thoughtful
financial planning. I would be proud to be part of continuing
our club in this direction. I hope to be elected and look
forward to serving on this board as Dynamo has been
important to my family for many years.
Mona and I have been
married for seventeen years and have resided in Alpharetta for
those seventeen. We have three daughters. Sydney is
twelve and swims with Age Group 1 and is in her fifth year
swimming with Dynamo. Alexandra is nine and in her second
year with Dynamo. She swims with the Gold
group. Cassidy is five and can`t wait
to be part of the team when she gets a little older. All
three girls learned to swim at Dynamo with their swim
lessons. Our family, especially Sydney since she has been
part of the team the longest, feels part of an extended Dynamo
family. We are proud to be part of the
team, as a parent, swimmer and
cheerleader.
I am an engineer by
training, earning a BS in Industrial Engineering from Purdue
University and an MS in Engineering Management from SMU. Over
the last ten years I have worked in health insurance with
Aetna. Originally with Aetna I worked in the Finance and
Medical Economics units, but the last four years I have served as
Vice President of Network Operations, responsible for the hospital
and physician contracting in Georgia and the associated medical
costs.
Among my volunteer
positions, I have assisted my wife over the last two years in
running the Doublegate Swim Team. Although not currently,
I have been active in our neighborhood`s HOA and served
as Grounds Chairman. On any given Saturday or Sunday, Mona or
I can be seen timing, flipping the event board or handling
hospitality at a Dynamo meet. Our family was very excited to
volunteer at the Short Course National Championship meet last
December.
