Learn 2 Swim

The Learn 2 Swim program is an entry level program for swimmers wanting to learn the joys of swimming.  Classes range from water awareness to efficient stroke technique to help get across the pool.  Our classes offer:  a great swimmer to coach ratio  (3:1), caring and enthusiastic coaches, and help promote greater water awareness.    Experience the Joys of Swimming with us!

Learn 2 Swim Levels

  • Learn 2 Swim 1:  Swimmer is comfortable in the water; swimmer should be able to enter water freely without coaxing; should also be able to put head under water and be free in the water by holdng onto the wall.
  • Learn 2 Swim 2:  Swimmer can put face into water and is able to take a few strokes unassisted.
  • Learn 2 Swim 3:  Swimmer is capable of taking strokes unassisted but is not efficient enough to swim across the pool.

Pre-Competitive Classes

This is KATY’s seasonal team. It is for children just learning the sport or desiring to improve and maintain their fitness level from the previous summer.  There are three levels to the Pre-Competitive program;  placement in groups is based upon the individual swimmer’s level.  The main goal of the Pre-Comp program is the progression of stroke development.  Swimmers progress at their own speed throughout the program and placement into a group is done with each individual swimmer’s needs in mind.

Entry requirement is to be able to swim at least one length of a 25-yard pool without stopping. The group is intended to be non-competitive and emphasizes stroke development in a fun atmosphere. Most of the swimmers in this group have participated in some type of summer league program.

The Pre-Competitive group usually swims three days a week for thirty to forty-five minutes. Practices are dedicated to teaching correct stroke mechanics as well as making the time spent at the pool enjoyable with fun and games. Swimmers should attend practices two or three times a week for success in this program.    It is the ultimate goal of the pre-comp swimmer to progress to the Competitive side of Katy Aquatics.  Coach: Swimmer ratio:  10:1.

Pre-Comp Class Levels

  • Pre-Comp 1:  Swimmer can swim 25 yards of efficient freestyle without stopping and is able to breathe to the side.
  • Pre-Comp 2:  Swimmer can swim 25 yards of efficient freestyle and 25 yards of efficient backstroke.
  • Pre-Comp 3:  Swimmer can swim three of the four strokes with legal and correct mechanics.

Age Group Development

These swimmers know all four strokes and are able to efficiently swim 25 yards of each.  This program is for the swimmer who wants to improve stroke technique, mechanics, and endurance, while preparing for our competitive programs.    Swimmers will focus on technique-oriented drills for each stroke, breaking each stroke into various water and land drills to help maximize the learning process.  There will be some conditioning with these groups, but most of the time wil be spent on stroke correction.  Class ratio:  1:20.

Age Group Classes:

  • Age Group 1:  Swimmer is able to swim all four strokes efficiently for 25 yards.  Swimmer is 11 years old or younger.
  • Age Group 2:  Swimmer is able to swim all four strokes efficiently for 25 yards.  Swimmer is older than 11.
