Dear Trident Family: We have completed the 2008/2009 swim season with some very special performances by several of our swimmers. At the long course state meet, at Eastern Michigan University, July 30-August 2, we had three girls participate in the open events and one boy. The girls were, Sarah Krueger, who swam the 100 breastroke, Sarah Roeser, who swam the 50 freestyle and Alexa Fregonara, who qualified in both the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly but only swam the 100 backstroke. Congratulations, to all the young ladies, who got up each morning and trained all summer, to attain this level of competence.
In addition, we had one 10 year boy, Rudy Aguilar, compete in the maximum, 6 events. Rudy, who began swimming with us with no swimming background, last August, attained some remarkable accomplishments. He was fourth in the 400 free, third in the 100 fly, 50 fly and 100 free. In both the 200 and 50 free, he finished an impressive second. Although, this is clearly a remarkable performance, for such a new swimmer, Rudy was a little disappointed as he wanted to be the first Trident, to bring home a gold medal.
This past weekend, Rudy and his family made the trip to North Dakota, where he represented both LATS and Michigan, for the United States Zone Championship Meet. Rudy qualified, in five events and was chosen, to swim on both the 200 Medley and 200 Free Relay. Once again, he fell short of his dream of gold in the 200 Free Relay, by placing second for Team Michigan. Finally, on the last day, in the 200 Medley Relay, Rudy anchored the relay, swimming freestyle and in a thrilling come from behind swim , Rudy out- touched his competitors and won the relay. In doing this, he attained his dream of becoming the first Trident, to win a gold medal at a State or Zone Meet.
Congratulations, to everyone for a great year and I look forward to seeing everyone, on September 8.
