Training
Group Descriptions
|
| Please see the
following descriptions for our various training groups. At the
Condors, our overall goal is to develop our swimmers into the best
athletes, allowing them to see how good they truly can be.We have
planned for their long-term development through our training group
progressions and it is vital swimmers be placed in the appropriate
group to ensure their continued success in the
sport.
|
| Pre-Team
|
| Description:
| This group is
designed to accelerate the transition between lessons and
competitive swimming. Strong emphasis is placed on teamwork and
learning the basic skills necessary for a successful competitive
swimming career.
|
| Requirements:
| Swimmers entering
this group must be able to swim a full-length of the pool Freestyle
and Backstroke, with proper stroke mechanics.
|
| Meets:
| This group does not
compete.
|
| Practices:
| The pre-team
practices 3 times a week for 45 minutes and runs on a
month-to-month basis. Swimmers are evaluated at the end of each
month and those ready are moved to stroke
development.
|
| Stroke
Development
|
| Description:
| This is the
entry-level group where swimmers develop basic competitive
swimming skills. Strong emphasis is placed on teamwork,
sportsmanship and having fun!
|
| Requirements:
| Swimmers entering
this group must be able to swim Freestyle, Backstroke and
Breaststroke legally. In addition, swimmers should be able to kick
25 yards without stopping and tread water for at least 45
seconds.
|
| Meets:
| Swimmers in this
group are encouraged to attend Condors-hosted home meets, based on
the coach’s recommendation.
|
| Practices:
| The Stroke
Development Group practices 3 times a week for 1
hour.
|
| Bronze
|
| Description:
| This is the
second-level development group where swimmers refine skills
and begin competing more regularly. Strong emphasis is placed on
stroke technique and developing the skills necessary to be a
successful competitive US Swimmer.
|
| Requirements:
| Swimmers in the
Bronze Group have been exposed to all 4 strokes and can do them
legally. In addition, swimmers can perfrom a forward racing
start from the blocks, demonstrate proper streamline and
flip-turns, and swim multiple laps without
stopping.
|
| Meets:
| Swimmers in the
Bronze Group are expected to participate in all Condors hosted
meets. They will be encouraged to attend away meets based on the
coach’s recommendation.
|
| Practices:
| This group practices
4 times a week for 1.25 hours. Practices consist of an hour of
swimming and 15 minutes of dry-land exercises.
|
| Silver
|
| Description:
| The Silver Group is a
competitive training group focused on developing advanced skills in
all 4 competitive strokes, starts, turns, and basic race
strategies. Emphasis is placed on developing strong work ethic
while still having fun!
|
| Requirements:
| Swimmers in the
Silver Group must be able to swim all 4 competitve strokes legally,
with turns. They also must be able to demonstrate a forward racing
dive, consistantly push off underwater, streamline and dolphin kick
10 yards. Swimmers must also be able to read a pace
clock.
|
| Meets:
| Swimmers in the
Silver Group are expected to attend all meets. This group focuses
on Championship Meets such as Metro Silver Championships, Junior
Olympics and Zone Qualifiers.
|
| Practices:
| This group practices
5 times a week for 1.5 hours. Swimmers will need the following
equipment: kickboard, fins, pull buoy and equipment
bag.
|
| Gold
|
| Description:
| This is a competitive
training group designed to prepare swimmers for state and regional
levels of competition. Strong emphasis is placed on training
etiquette, advanced stroke mechanics, training and race strategies,
goal setting, nutrition and mental
preperation.
|
| Requirements:
| Swimmers in this
group must demonstrate positive attitude, consistant practice
attendance and have a strong understanding of swimming
technique.
|
| Meets:
| Swimmers are expected
to participate in all Condors meets. In addition, swimmers are to
attend USA Swimming meets throughout the season as well as the
highest level Championship meet they qualify
for.
|
| Practices:
| The Gold Group
practices 6 times a week for 2-2.5 hours. Practices include both
pool time and dry-land exercises.
|
| Senior
|
| Description:
| This is currently our
highest level training group. Swimmers focus on maximizing
potential and reaching the highest level of success. Strong
emphasis is placed physical and emotional preperation for national
competition. This group will focus on advanced stroke mechanics,
specific training of energy systems, training and race strategies,
proper nutrition, goal setting and mental
conditioning.

| Requirements:
| Swimmers in this
group must have multiple Senior Metropolitan Cut Times and display
the ability to train at a high level, including double
practices.
|
| Meets:
| Swimmers in this
group are required to attend all meets as decided by the Head
Coach. Campionship meets for this group include Senior Metropolitan
Championships, Speedo Sectionals, USA Swimming Junior and
Senior Nationals and Olympic Trials.
|
| Practices:
| Swimmers in
the Senior Group are required to regularly attend practices.
Practices are held 6 days a week, with double practices several
times a week.
