Swim School
Give your child the competitive edge with COOL Swim
School! Our progressive stroke development program is geared
towards children with previous swim lesson experience who may be
interested in swimming as a sport. We focus on developing
proper fundamentals and techniques as well as instilling a love of
the sport in a fun, positive atmosphere.
**Swim School children
have the option to begin participating in swim meets if they
wish.
Swim Academy
The Swim Academy is the first level in the COOL
Swim School for children 5 years and older. With a low
instructor to student ratio, children receive the benefits of
individual attention in a swim team atmosphere. After
successfully mastering the skills in Swim Academy, children will be
invited to advance to the precompetitive team.
Age: 5 and
up
Attendance: Attendance at
each lesson is highly recommended and money cannot be refunded for
missed lessons.
Cost: $60/session
Focus: Stroke development of
all four strokes, endurance building, introduction to flip turns
and racing starts, introduction to competitive rules and
terminology
Equipment: goggles, swim cap
(recommended)
Minimum Requirements*:
Children who have advanced through Level 4 Red
Cross lessons or Minnow level YMCA lessons will most likely meet
these requirements.
- 25 yards freestyle nonstop with side
breathing
- 25 yards backstroke nonstop
- 25 yards breaststroke kick
- Knowledge of diving
Class schedule: A session consists
of 8 lessons (twice a week for 4 weeks). During the school
year, 2-3 sessions are scheduled per semester.

Precompetitive Team
This group is for swimmers who have advanced
through Swim Academy or the equivalent and would like to continue
with their swimming experience. Emphasis in this group is placed on
increased proficiency and conditioning.
Age: 5 and
up
Attendance: 3 or more
practices offered per week. Swimmers are highly encouraged to
attend as many practices as possible for maximum
benefit.
Cost: The precompetitive
class runs on a trimester schedule. Families may choose to pay
$65/month for 4 months or $240/trimester.
Focus: Stroke development,
racing starts, flip turns, introduction to practice routine,
competitive swimming rules and terminology, development of
commitment to the sport.
Equipment: goggles, swim cap

Cross lessons or Fish level YMCA lessons will most likely meet
these requirements.

How to try-out and enroll on the
precompetitive team!
*Skill level
requirements are set up to ensure that each child will be able to
progress and thrive in the Swim School setting. Any child
not initially meeting the minimum requirements will be encouraged
to seek private and/or group lessons to learn basic
skills.
