Gold Strypers
The Gold Squad is designed to build on the basic skills developed
in the Mini Strypers Group. This training group will have stroke
technique refined and advanced, will learn to train and be
introduced to greater aerobic conditioning.
Requirements:
Swimmers
must be able to complete the the Goals of the Mini Stryper
Squad.
- Swim 200m IM legally .
- Swim 500 yards freestyle (unassisted).
- Perform all turns, open flip and push-offs efficiently.
- Swim 5 x 50 freestyle on 1:15.
- Basic understanding of pace clock.
Equipment: two pair of goggles, cap, split
fins and a kickboard.
(All equipment is the responsibility of the
athlete and must be brought to every practice).
Goals:
Swimmer is working toward the following
accomplishments:

- 2 x 200 IM
@ 4.20.
- 3 x 100 kick @ 2.20.
- 6 x 100 freestyle @ 2.00.
and any one
of the following:
- 4 x 100
freestyle @ 1.55.
- 4 x 100 backstroke @ 2.10.
- 4 x 100 breastroke @ 2.20.
- 2 x 100 butterfly @ 2.20.

- 3x 200m IM
@ 4.10.
- 4x 100m kick @ 2.20.
- 7 x 100m freestyle @ 1.50.
and any one
of the following:
- 5 x 100
freestyle @ 1.45.
- 5 x 100 backstroke @ 2.00.
- 5 x 100 breastroke @ 2.10.
- 4 x 100 butterfly @ 2.10.

Training Program:
Coaches and swimmers are focused primarily on stroke development
with increased attention to aerobic conditioning and mental
preparation.

1. The swimmer will demonstrate an
awareness of quality sportsmanship.
Work Ethic
and Self-Discipline:
1. The swimmer
attends the required meets and understands the importance of being
on time for meet warm-up.
2. The swimmer meets the established attendance criteria.
3. The swimmer understands why he or she must say no to drugs and
other harmful substances.
4. The swimmer learns to challenge him or herself to the utmost of
his or her ability in practice.
Time Management:
1. The swimmer begins to learn the importance of
managing the competing pressures for an athlete.
Commitment and
Loyalty:
1. The swimmer chooses a national swimming hero and
knows the event in which the hero competes or competed.
Social
Awareness:
1. The
swimmer willingly and enthusiastically contributes to SSYS
initiatives designed to increase awareness and practically assist
those less fortunate.
