Senior
II Strypers Group
The Senior II Group is the third
highest level training group available with the South Shore YMCA
Strypers. The aim of this group is to qualify and be highly
competitive in New England Swimming Championships meets. Swimmers
are considered for this group based on a combination of three main
criteria:
1. Readiness
and ability to execute the practice.
2. Meet performances.
3. Age.
Practice
Schedule:
Eight two-hour swim
practices are offered per week plus three 1-hour dry land sessions
(including cycling, yoga and core conditioning). Swimmers will
benefit most from our program and experience the most improvement
by making all practices. 100% attendance is expected at this
level.
Requirements:
Swimmers must
be able to complete the the Goals of the Age Group Stryper Squad
and complete the following:
- 2 x 400 IM @ 6.45.
- 6 x 100 kick @ 2.00.
- 8 x 100 freestyle @ 1.35
and any one of the following:
- 6 x 100
freestyle @ 1.30.
- 6 x 100 backstroke @ 1.45.
- 6 x 100 breastroke @ 1.55.
- 4 x 100 butterfly @ 1.45.
Equipment: two pair of goggles, cap, short fins, speed paddles,
kickboard, pull buoy and a hard tennis ball.
(All equipment is
the responsibility of the athlete and must be brought to every
practice).
Goals:
Swimmer is working
toward the following accomplishments:
- 3x 400 IM @ 6.15.
- 8 x 100 kick @ 1.50.
- 24 x 100 freestyle @ 1.25.
and any one of the following:
- 6 x 100 freestyle @ 1.15.
- 6 x 100 backstroke @ 1.25.
- 6 x 100 breastroke @ 1.35.
- 4 x 100 butterfly @ 1.25.
Training
Program:
Coaches and swimmers are
focused on developing a comprehensive training regime, accounting
for stroke refinement, increased aerobic and anaerobic capacity,
dry-land training, mental skills and balanced nutrition for
athletes.

Behaviour and Accountability:
1. The
swimmer learns to accept responsibility for his or her
performances.
2. The swimmer demonstrates the attributes of quality
sportsmanship.
Work Ethic and
Self-Discipline:
1. The
swimmer meets the established attendance criteria.
2. The swimmer will learn coping strategies to deal with peer
pressure.
3 . The swimmer will learn coping strategies to deal with parent
pressure.
4 . The swimmer will be able to list the five classes of prohibited
substance.
5 . The swimmer understands and performs personal race
strategies.
Time
Management:
1. The
swimmer demonstrates an ability to balance school, social
activities, swimming and family.
Commitment and
Loyalty:
1. The
swimmer can effectively communicate his or her goals and commitment
to his or her parents, coach and teammates.
2. The swimmer knows the team goals and will take an active part in
developing specific and attainable practice group goals.
3. The swimmer understands the relationship between his or her
personal commitment leve and results.
Social
Awareness:
1. The
swimmer willingly and enthusiastically contributes and helps lead
initiatives designed to increase awareness and practically assist
those less fortunate.
