Team
DeWitt Swim
Club’s Stroke Instructional Program for 6-12 year
olds
There is a major emphasis on
stroke technique, turns, starts, and making swimming fun. Swimmers
must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke.
Two or Three, 60 to 75 minute practices are offered each week
from September through Early Spring. Though swimmers may have
technical ability to be complete the requirement of a higher group,
placement is based a multitude of factors including, but not
limited to: age, practice attendance, maturity, competition
participation, with final approval from Head Coach. Two
required inter-squad meets are scheduled; one in October and one in
late winter. Swimmers are encouraged to enter at least four
additional local swim meets per season.
Minnows
Swimmer must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke.
There will be two, 1-hour practices each week. Minnows are
encouraged to swim in local area swim meets.
Big Fish
Meet all Minnows criteria and be able to swim a 25 yard
breaststroke. There will be three, 1-hour practices each week. Big
Fish are encouraged to swim in local area swim meets with some
travel necessary.
Sharks
Meet all Big Fish criteria and be able to swim a 25 yard butterfly.
There will be three, 75 minutes practice each week. Swimmers
in this group are strongly encouraged to swim in local area
swim meets and may qualify for regional meets in Buffalo, Rochester
and Binghamton throughout the season.
Black
Team
DeWitt Swim Club’s
Competitive Program
The major emphasis is on strength,
endurance for longer distance swimming while competing among New
York’s best swimmers. Though stroke technique, turns,
and starts are included, swimmers must have a technical
understanding of the four major strokes. Swimmers must be
invited to the Black team by the Junior and Senior coaching
staff. Practices vary in length and intensity. Most
swimmers will train 4-5 days weekly for 2 hours. Two required
inter-squad meets are scheduled; one in October and one in late
winter. Swimmers are required to compete in a minimum of six
meets annually. Culminating with Championship level meets in
Buffalo, Rochester and the mid-Atlantic region.
Juniors
Athlete must meet all Red Team and
Shark criteria. Prove that swimmer can handle, four, 2-hour
practice each week. Show a basic knowledge of interval training.
Swimmers will be required to swim in local meets and travel to
regional meets if qualified.
Seniors
Swimmer must meet all Junior
criteria. Prove that the swimmer can handle, Five, 2-hour practices
each week. The minimum age requirement is 12 years old.
Swimmers will be working on pace, race strategies, endurance
training in the practices. Senior swimmers will be required to have
annual goal setting meetings with the coaching staff. In this
group swimmers will be required to attend certain meets, which will
be decided upon depending on swimmers level. Goal meets for Senior
will be Niagara Districts and other regional meets.
Senior
Elite
Swimmers must be asked to join
this group by the Head Coach. Training will be at the highest
level. Six, 2-hour practice weekly, including doubles certain times
of the year. Swimmers will be taught the physiological,
psychological, and biomechanical areas of swimming. Attendance is
mandatory to all practices, with minimal exceptions. Athletes
will train towards competing in Districts; however the ultimate
goal includes the Speedo Championship Series, Junior and Senior
Nationals. Dry land and stretch routines will be provided for
outside of practice.
