Yellow 2 Developmental

The Yellow 2 Developmental group (Y2D) is the first level of the competitive 10 and under Yellow Bell groups. The group is designed to introduce concepts, drill and “the basics” in order to build a strong foundation for stroke technique. This is a competitive group that teaches intervals, improvement of all four competitive strokes, starts, turns, finishes, and racing strategies. It is a great place for newer competitive swimmers coming from summer league or the SCSC Developmental program. We emphasize stroke technique, teamwork, basic training etiquette and behavior.  Typical age range in Y2D is 6-9 years old.

Equipment: Mesh Bags, Fins and Buoys should be purchased by the swimmer and brought to each practice session.

Time Standards

3 National B time standards for 9 year olds in two different strokes. 2 National B times for swimmers 8 and younger; Ability to swim all four strokes legally as evaluated by Yellow bell group coaches. There will be NO 10 year olds in Yellow Bell Developmental groups.

Workout Intervals

Swimmers must be able to complete 6 x 100 IM on 2:30 Swimmers must be able to complete 10 x 50 Kick on 1:15 Swimmers must be able to complete 8 x 100 Free on 2:10

Required Skills

Swimmers must be able to leave the wall and hold a streamline position with 3 underwater dolphin kicks consistently. Swimmers must be able to read the clock. Swimmers must be able to legally perform all 7 swimming turns at all times Swimmers must attend at least one sanctioned meet per month for the 3 months prior to consideration of group advancement.

Attendance and Participation

Although there is not an attendance requirement for the YB2 Group, it should be noted that the most successful swimmers in the Yellow Bell groups attend no less than 3 practices per week (many attend 4 or 5). Attendance will be taken on a daily basis. Swimmers must participate in meets listed on the group’s schedule. Any swimmers who cannot attend a listed meet should communicate with the coach. Swimmers should get coach’s approval prior to entering any meets not listed on the meet schedule.

Yellow 2 Advanced

The Yellow 2 Advanced (Y2A) group builds upon the fundamental swimming skills learned in the Y2D Group. More advanced drills and training techniques are introduced progressively to improve overall coordination and efficiency in water. Swimmers are encouraged to attend practice regularly and participate in swim meets. Competitive goals include longer swims and sets, continuing to master the four competitive strokes, and gaining proficiency in turns, starts, and finishes.  Typical age range: 8-10.

Equipment: Mesh Bags, Fins and Buoys should be purchased by the swimmer and brought to each practice session.

Time Standards
