MAKO 2017 - 2018 Season

  • Registration for returning members will be held from May 4th to August 24th.  Returning families will have until May 19th to register and receive 2016/17 rates.  Starting on May 20th, returning families will register and receive 2017/18 rates.
  • Registration for new families began on May 20th and ends on August 24th.
  • Family Discounts: Swimmer with highest dues fees will pay in full, and additional swimmers in same family will receive a 5% discount off of their dues.
  • All new swimmers must be evaluated.  Contact Coach Heather at makoswimming@aol.com for more information.
  • New for 2017-2018: We are now using the Online Registration System instead of the PDF form of previous years.  In addition, we will be switching to an online platform for the invoicing and paying of Dues, Meet Fees, and other incidental charges. 

The Mason Makos Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. The Mason Makos Swim Team's goal is to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Sessions

The MAKO Calendar runs from September to August. The exact dates for each Session are shown below:

Session 1: September 11 through November 25, 2017
Session 2: November 27, 2017 through February 16, 2018
Session 3: February 19, 2018 through May 5, 2018
Session 4: May 7, 2018 through July 27, 2018 (may be divided into two sessions on request)

The Mini Mako Developmental, Mini Mako Blue, Age Group and High School groups offer the option for swimmers to register for all three sessions, September to May, or any combination of the individual sessions. Priority is given to swimmers who sign up for all three sessions.

Swimmers in the Mini Mako Gold, Junior Gold, Senior Prep and Senior groups practice for all three sessions (September to May).  Junior Gold, Senior Prep and Senior groups can select to also swim in Session 4.

Mini MAKO Developmental
Recommended Ages: 8 yrs old & Under
Note: All new Mini Mako Developmental swimmers must be evaluated.
Check the Calendar and News for information about the evaluations.
Requirements: Ability to swim legal freestyle and backstroke for 25 yards, unassisted in shallow water. Not a "learn-to-swim" program. Practice held in the recreational pool.
Description: Extensive stroke mechanics work on all 4 strokes.
Note: The Mini Mako Developmental swimmers do not participate in swim meets.
Goal: Legal strokes.

Mini MAKO Blue

Requirements: Must be able to swim 2-3 strokes legally, unassisted in deep water. Not a "learn-to-swim" program. MUST compete in at least 3 PVS/USA meets during the year. All new swimmers must be evaluated.
Description: Extensive stroke mechanics work, plus conditioning. 1 or 2 practices/week.
Goal: Legal strokes, starts, and turns.

Mini MAKO Gold

Requirements: Must be able to swim 3-4 strokes legally, (including breaststroke), unassisted in deep water. Not a "learn-to-swim" program. MUST compete in at least 5 PVS/USA meets during the year. All new swimmers must be evaluated. Coach's Approval Required.

Swimmers in this group MUST practice in all three sessions, September through May.

Description: Extensive stroke mechanics work, plus conditioning. 2 practices/week.
Goal: Legal strokes, starts and turns.

Option 2: (2x/week) Tues & Thurs 5:30 – 6:30 PM (FULL)

Age Group
Recommended Ages: 9 to 12 yrs. old
Requirements: Ability to swim all four strokes legally, and complete a legal 100 yd I.M. This is not a "learn-to-swim" program. Compete in at least 4 PVS meets during the season.
Description: Extensive stroke drill work and technique development. Start and turn refinement, and transition turns for the 100 IM. Some conditioning, but emphasis will mainly be on 25s and 50s where stroke correction will occur.
Goal: More efficient strokes, conditioning and race techniques.
Practice Times:

Junior Blue
Recommended Ages: 9 to 12 yrs. old
Requirements:

Legal in all four strokes. Ability to complete a 100 yd. I.M. MUST compete in at least 5 PVA/USA meets during the year, and compete in the 200 IM and 200 Freestyle by the end of the season. Coach's Approval Required.  

Swimmers in this group practice in all three sessions, September through May.

Description: Continued stroke drill work, incorporating them into sets. Learn importance of underwater swimming off walls during turns. Introduction to race strategies and proper nutrition.
Goal: More efficient strokes, increased conditioning, and race techniques. Achieving Junior Olympic time standards.
Practice Times: Option 1: (2x/week) Mon / Wed 6:45 – 7:45 PM
Option 2: (2x/week) Tues / Thurs 5:30 – 6:30 AM (5:15AM - optional dryland)
Option 3: (2x/week) Tues/Thurs 6:30 – 7:30 PM (FULL)

Junior Gold
Recommended Ages: 9 to 12 yrs. old
Requirements: Legal in all four strokes, and be able to complete a proficient 200 yd I.M. MUST compete in 7 PVS/USA meets during the year, and compete in the 500 Freestyle by the end of the swim season. Should have or be very close to having Junior Olympic-level qualification time standards and/or Coach's Approval.
Description: Continued stroke drill work while incorporating them into sets. Swimmers will learn the importance of swimming relaxed. Continued review of the importance of turns, and underwater swimming off of walls. Increased conditioning. Physically more demanding than our other programs for this age group.
Goal: Stronger, more efficient strokes. Junior Olympic Championships qualification in additional events.
Practice Times: Option 1: (3x/week) M/W/F 5:15 – 6:30 AM (5am optional dryland) 
Option 2: (3x/week) M/W 5:30 – 6:45 PM and F 5:30 – 7:00 PM (FULL)

Recommended Ages: 13 - 18 year old
Requirements: Ability to complete a proficient 200 I.M.  Should have or be very close to having Junior Olympic, Junior Championship or Senior Championship level qualification time standards.
Description: Designed for swimmers who want to compete for their high school. This group is also used to supplement their HS season, and also for those who wish to compete in PVS/USA meets. Increased training, with some stroke and turn work. Dryland included on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the Fall and Spring.
Goal: Stronger, more efficient strokes. Substantially increased conditioning. PVS Senior Championships qualification.

Senior Prep
Requirements: Ability to complete a very proficient 200 yd I.M. Should have or be very close to having Junior Olympic-level qualification time standards and/or coach's approval. MUST compete in at least 7 PVS/USA meets during the year.  MUST also compete in ALL offered events, including 200s in all strokes, 500 free, 1,000 Free, and 400IM by the end of the Swim Season.
Description: Strokes, starts and turns drills are incorporated into the swimming sets during practice. Continued review of the importance of turns, and underwater swimming off of walls. Increased conditioning. Physically more demanding than our Age Group and Junior programs. Swimmers will also learn about proper nutrition. Dryland included on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the Fall and Spring.
This program is designed to help the transition from our Junior swimming groups to the Senior level.
Goal: Stronger, more efficient strokes; Increased conditioning; Junior Olympic Championships qualification in additional events.
Practice Times: Option 1: Monday 5:00 – 6:30 AM, Tues/Thurs 5:30 – 7:30 PM, & Sat 6:00 – 8:00 AM (FULL)
Option 2: Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri 5:00 – 6:30 AM

Senior/National Groups
Requirements: PVS Senior Championships, and/or Junior National Championships qualification times. Must have Coach's approval.
Description: Designed for the most dedicated swimmers who potentially may want to swim in college. Intense training; Strokes, starts and turns refinement. Monthly meetings will be held to discuss goals and upcoming competitions. Dryland included on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the Fall and Spring. 
Goal: Optimized strokes, turns and starts. Eastern Zone Sectional Championships, Junior- or Senior- National Championships qualification.
Practice Times: Option 1: M-F 5:00–6:30 AM & Sat. 6:00–8:00 AM (FULL)
Senior PLUS Option 2: Mon - Fri 5:00 – 6:30 AM, Tues/Thurs 5:00 – 6:30 PM (Dryland & Swim), Sat. 6:00 – 8:00 AM
