A Word from the Coach !!!

Swimming With a Purpose

What I’d like to see from you now, is what I saw from one of our 7 year old swimmers Saturday.  Laine Thomas was entered late, in the 50 free which caused him to be put in a slower heat than he normally would have been in.  What made Laine’s swim special was that he swam the race as if everyone was ahead of him and he was trying to catch them.  In reality, he was leading his heat and there was no one close to him.  He wasn’t racing everyone else, he was racing himself.

Laine had what psychologist’s call “intrinsic motivation”.  All that means is that he “willed” himself to swim faster.  He wasn’t pushed by Coach Randy, his Mom or Dad, or someone else in the race; all of these are “extrinsic motivators” or come from the outside.  Congratulations Laine for learning a very valuable lesson early in your life.  Don’t lose it!

Let’s all look for something inside you that makes you want to swim fast, all the time, not just when your in a close race or someone is yelling at you.  I know you all can do it.  Look hard, it’s there.

Check Your Messages

It is the swimmer’s responsibility to check the web site and their folder (in crate at Apache Pool) each week in order to stay informed about upcoming events.  After meets, ribbons will also be placed in each family’s folder. Please do not try to get your ribbons at the meet.

Unable to Attend a Meet

If you are unable to attend, please let the coaches know as soon as possible (send email or leave a note in the coaches folder).   You must give the coaches 9 days notice if you will not be attending a meet.   This is very important.  We do not want to disappoint any children by having to scratch their relay team because someone was unable to attend and did not notify the coaches in a timely manner.

Please be courteous to your teammates.

Volunteers

We can always use a few more volunteers.  Please do your part and sign up to help out.  Most of the assignments take very little training, and are fun to do.
