Welcome once again to Summer Swim Team!

It’s going to be an exciting 29th season for Hallowell!  We are very lucky to have a great coaching staff in place to provide inspiration, leadership and excellent instruction to our kids.  We will continue to use  TeamUnify as our central meeting place to provide important team information and additionally allow families to sign up for jobs and swim meets via the web-site.

For the 2020 season, the Hallowell Hurricanes will swim our Saturday morning meets in Division G against Potomac Woods, Westleigh, Forest Knolls, Manor Woods, and Little Falls.

For our Wednesday evening meets, we will once again be swimming Olney Mill (OM), Mill Creek Towne (MCT), Flower Valley (FV), Clarksburg Village (CV) and Damascus (DA).  It’s going to be a great season!

It takes the participation of every parent to make a successful season. Each family is required to work at meets in some capacity or another, as well as helping with meet set up and clean up. In an effort to keep our  TEAM COMMITMENT requirements as fair as possible, we are assigning points to each job/position based on the amount of time and effort the position requires. Each family, in turn, will be asked to earn a certain number of points throughout the season. For example, positions such as grill worker or stroke & turn officials will earn more points than donating food for hospitality. More information about the how many points each family is required to work will be available at registration. Please remember that while we establish a minimum requirement, we do rely on many parent far exceeding this TEAM COMMITMENT requirement and helping out whenever they can. Using the point system, we look forward to honoring all those parents who do just that.

Swim Suits & Spiritwear

We will have a new team suit this season.  You are be able to buy suits through Capital Swim & Sport which is located at 10558 Metropolitan Ave in Kensington. Be sure to tell them what team you are from so they put the logo on it!

Team Spirit Wear (e.g., caps, sweatshirts, shorts, t-shirts, etc) will again be offered this season with many new items to choose from, including, swim caps, tank tops and car magnets.  There will be spiritwear and goggles available to purchase at registration night. We will offer personalized team caps~ pre-orders only!

Please Remember To Bring to Registration:

  • A post dated check for $300 (dated July 20, 2019)
  • A check for purchasing spirit wear
  • Your swimmers for spirit wear sizing

Hallowell also needs more parents who are certified officials.  Want to learn more about the sport of swimming?  Become certified as a Referee, Starter, or Stroke and Turn Judge to officiate at meets. The more certified officials we have, the fewer meets each person will need to work. Becoming certified is also a great way to support your swimmers.

To become certified, you must attend one free clinic offered by MCSL.  Certification is only required every two years. The schedule for these clinics is listed on the MCSL website (  The clinics are held before the season begins.  Contact David Bacon at for more information.

Team Trip and Social Activities

The team sponsors a number of social activities throughout the season, including a team trip to a local amusement or water park. Details of all social events will be posted on the team website ( as they become available. They will also be communicated through team newsletters, which are available online throughout the season. The Banquet is the culminating event of the season, and is held on Saturday, July 20th.  This year, our banquet will be held at Good Counsel High School! Mark your calendar, everyone (including pre-team) will not want to miss it!
